Was told I might find some reliable information on this forum for loading my 45-120. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated as I am just getting started in BP metalic cartridge shooting. Was also recommended that I ask about duplex loads and what's safe, and what's not. I will be shooting three different weight bullets, 405 FN, 475 RN and 500 Pointed round nose (all cast .459 diameter W/gas check). Powder choices don't matter to me as I am willing to try anything that works (within reason of course). BP, Pyrodex, APP, XMP5744, etc, etc.

Happy shooting.

The "pointed round nose" may sound like a misnomer. I was using the discriptive given in the Midway catalog for the Lee 45-70 500 grain bullet they have listed. It is a 3 ring, flat base in a "semi-pointed" design. Don't know why they called it a pointed round nose (page 408 in master catalog #31).
CapnMidnight, dtknowles,
Thanks for the info. Want to know as much as possible before slinging lead. Don't need to be blowing things up, i.e. me or the rifle.

There is a lot of discussion on the Shiloh board, they won't flunk you if you have a different brand rifle.

I suggest Fg real black and plain base bullets of 500+ grains.
I don't have any experience in gas checks, duplex loads, nitro, or fake powders as I shoot BPCR competition where that stuff is not allowed.
