1857 Remington 1816 Musket Rifle

I have a friend who just found an old musket rifle which we believe is a Remington 1816 which was converted in 1857. The lock plate say Remington, Ilion, NY 1857. The rifle had been in his sister's attic for 60 years and we aren't how her husband (Deceased) purchased the rifle. The barrel doesn't have any markings and our question is where in Maryland can we take the gun to get it appraised or restored.
