What is a good,safe, over the counter load for an antique Win. mod. 92, 44-40?

    Any of the loads legal for SASS competitions should be ok.

    Anything labeled as a "cowboy load". These are made by Winchester, Black Hills, Ultramax, and others.

    If your gun is in NRA good condition any ammunition marked 44-40 will be safe.
    In about 1900 ammo companies began making high speed ammunition for the 44-40, plus 32-20 and 38-40, marked "For Win. 92 only".
    This ammo was made till about 1960 and discontinued.
    The only factory loaded ammo available today is low speed, black powder equivalent.
