New to 45-70 can it be dry fired?

I have just gone into a field that is entirely new to me. It is an IAB falling block. I tend to use snap caps in all of my guns, and just want to know if it is a real no-no to dry fire it.

Not only would I NOT dry fire it, be sure to put it on half cock before you drop the lever. You may cut off the fireing pin if it has not retracted!
