New to Muzzle Loaders....

William81William81 Member Posts: 25,332 ✭✭✭✭
I got a new CVA Optima for my Birthday in late November. Sighted it in the first weekend and shot my first whitetail with it 4 days later.

I am now hooked......so I am thinking about a handgun.

Suggestions Please

Get a cap and ball pistol.
Why not the classic Colt 1860 Army in .44?

    Pietta makes pretty good guns.

I'll put in my 2 cents worth, I think the only BP REVOLVER IS THE
RUGER OLD ARMY IN STAINLESS STEEL........Thanks...........CookE

    Cooke is right!

    Sort of.

The ROA is the best cap and ball pistol ever made.

But it is not a replica of anything. It "sorta" looks like an authentic cap and ball pistol.
So if you want an authentic looking and beautiful Colt get the Pietta.
If you want a bulletproof and very reliable pistol get the Ruger.

PS The Ruger has been discontinued but many are for sale.
    Expensive.

Actually, if you squint your eyes, the Ruger Old Army comes in really close to resembling a Whitney Revolver. Just my opinion...but then, try and convince them that at the CAS shoots when they tell you to register for the "modern" category and you don't have any photos to show them. Ha!

    Best Regards,
    Hutch
