Mink Oil

Has anyone used mink oil (the water proofing kind)as a patch and bullet lube, or is it petroleum based?

Two different types from what I understand. The one is made just for waterproofing leather and contains petroleum products. The one sold by Track Of The Wolf is all natural and can be used for patches or leather.

Never tried it before. I use it on my knife sheaths but never as a bullet lube. I prefer TC Bore Butter. I have tried everything out there and the Bore Butter seems to work best.

Many thanks for the replys.
I have a big tub of mink oil that I thought I might be able to use if it would work.
I have some of the TC Bore butter, I can't get over the icy hot smell.

I don't care for the smell of bore butter myself, but I agree it works better than anything else I have used.

Liking that odor is a taste I plan never to acquire.[xx(] But I will keep using it on my patches.

The smell of liver and Lima beans is preferred over bore butter. It does work well.
Use it after your meal.

True mink oil is good for patch in winter...too runny in warm weather.

After discovering bore butter, my quest for a better lube ended.
The smell of bore butter is way better than the rotten egg smell when cleaning after every 5th shot.
