That in the mid 1800?s Chicago was lifted 10 feet. All of the buildings even the large brick hotels were jacked up and some moved around so a sewer system could be installed. Until that time human feces ran through the streets and the hard flat clay the town was built on wouldn?t drain. The sewer worked great except the waste was drained into the Chicago River which was the source for the city?s drink water. Uh oh. Can you say Cholera??
