Hit a couple gun shops looking for holsters - no luck. I figure a S&W M29 holster would work.
I have had several of the 5.5" guns in different calibers. I got rid of all but one a 44 mag stainless 5.5" gun that I have worked on. I like the front sight set up on Redhawks that are so easy to change. I also have the green fiber optic.
For a holster I like the Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake holster.

They have come up in price but they are great holsters. They keep the gun close to your body and secure. They are very comfortable when carrying a large heavy revolver.
One cool thing about the Redhawk is the length of the cylinder and the strength of the gun. For an avid handloader like myself I can load up pussycat loads or what I call train derailers
I hope you enjoy it and I think that was a fair trade, I have never had any use for an AK-47 either.

I was looking at that Simply Rugged Holster and this Diamond D Leather Alaskan Hunter Holster yesterday.

I plan to order one of those (probably the SR pancake holster). In the meantime grabbed a Nylon/Leather hybrid from Galco.

Wanted something quiet - all my leather holsters are squeaking like mad these days. Reading Simply Rugged's FAQ section, I see he recommends coating the belt loops with neutral shoe polish to cure squeaks. I'll have to give that a try.
Kind of sad - but of all my holsters, I have no large revolver holsters. I was able to force the Ruger into a Pacific Canvas and Leather Victory Holster but the whole rig squeaks just walking around.
I do plan to reload. Need to unbox my press and clear a hole in the garage to set it up.
20 years ago I had S&W M1917 45 acp and a S&W 25-5 45 Colt. Traded both off back then for something else long since gone.
Yesterday between thunder storms, I shot 3 cylinders of 45 acp fmj on moonclips and 2 cylinders of 45 Colt Cowboy ammo through the gun at my 25yd gong. The acp has more recoil than the cowboy ammo. But nothing to speak of. Need to put up some paper and see where it's hitting. Seemed a 6 O'clock hold worked decently. I like the Williams fiber optic sights. This is my 1st gun with them on there.
The Ruger moon clips are easy to use. No de-mooning tool required to pull off the empties. They pluck off easily enough by hand.
Now the question is - what lever action and what caliber to go with this Ruger?
I'm thinking 45-70 or maybe a 454 lever. Sure a 45 Colt lever action would make sense but I want something a little different. Already have a 357mag lever action.
