I was bored and the weather was not quite right for bowhunting so I decided to head up the fence row and do a little squirrel hunting.....I got this one with my 6" S&W 617....Bushnell dot sight and CCI Mini-Mag at 27 yards. Then it started to rain hard so I returned home....at least I got outside for a little while today...Anyone else been squirrel hunting ?

I want to try my Ruger 22/45 with the red dot. Need to get close.
I've shot over 60 this year, not with a pistol. That's more than I've shot in the last 15 years combined. I can remember when 60 would have been a fair first couple of weeks.
Nice squirrel
Nice job
Wow, that is a lot of tree rats.....I enjoy eating a few from time to time. Squirrel alfredo is pretty tasty !!!!
never have hunted them with a handgun
you shoot handguns better than me
good job
The wife and I are heading out sometime next week to load up the freezer. I'll be shooting a quite deadly Savage 1917 NRA 22LR. Wife will be shooting a CZ455 22 Mag.
I have a little Sears .22 single shot that is deadly on squirrels. I only shoot the males, though.
I love a good squirrel hunt!
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
I have shot them with the K22 iron sights. It is a challenge but can be done.
Well it's best to hunt squirrels where there's nuts.
Nice squirrel....what firearm were you using badchris ?
I was rabbit hunting with my Mossy 500 12ga & #6 shot. This guy came down a tree and started barking at me begging to get shot 😁. Sadly it was the only action I had that day, other than a chipmunk that I took mercy on.
Whats your favorite way to skin them?
I have my first rifle set up with a 4X Nikon to rid our yard of the tree rats. Marlin 30 A "Mountie" with CCI 22 short HP's, sighted in at 40 yards. I get enough every year to satisfy our appetite for squirrel. I try, but usually fail for head shots. Old eyes are NOT good.
Make a cut through the skin between the tail and *. Twist and break the base of the tail. Set your foot on the tail and pull straight up with the hind legs. This will remove the skin up to the head. There’ll be a strip of skin on the belly, grasp it’s with your other hand and pull down. This will remove the skin from the hind legs. You’ll know what to do from there. There’s a Youtube video.
I find 36 grains of CCI Mini-mag usually sedates them right away.....😉
