What is with all the "NR" rated gun bidders??????

44mag444mag4 Member Posts: 47
Looking through many ads, I see there are a huge amount  "NR" rated bidders. I am thinking they are deomcrats who are trying to destroy the gun market. I have had my share of them bidding and not wanting to pay. What is the solution? Is there a way to block them before the auction is over?

Calm down. They are for the most part just first time bidders on Gunbroker.  They by the way are the ones paying such high prices for certain guns although I think that may be quieting down now.

Some folks aren't complaining.  I saw one gun that I know was worth < $1,000 sell for $3,900, AND THE NR BIDDER PAID.  We have no control over bidders, we all had to start at zero feedback.

One thing I know is that GB takes a VERY dim view of non-paying bidders unless there is solid provable reason to not pay, like fraud.  The current NPB's are part of the panic buying rush.  I would imagine most NPB's are ineligible to buy or are totally ignorant of the Federal and State imposed processes it takes to acquire a firearm in this nation.
The old days of "drunk whilst bidding" or "oh crap the wife found out" will come back but it will take some time.  If Harris/Biden becomes POTUS the NPB panic buyer issue will multiply exponentially.

I am a NR bidder, not a democrat and bid a lot but someone always outbids me. Guess I need more money but you have to start someplace.

Lighten up a little on this one Mark.  I can see how many people would be concerned and not sure what is going on and asking about these strange times, getting feedback from you and other members will probably calm some people down.  I know if I was selling something and saw a couple of NRs getting into a bidding war over what I was selling I would be very worried!!!

Mark, Sorry, I did not realize this had been brought up in the past. Didn`t look very far back. Was just concerned.

    ... try drinking ...
I have a very nice lightweight 20 gauge auto that I thought I was making a low-ball bid on.
I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly

And what's up with sellers not leaving feedback on buyers?
    Lazy or incompetent?

Been on GB for most of it’s existence. Never had an issue with a NR. This last week, I had one NR bidder retract his offer on a gun (I allowed it in order to avoid non-payment, per GB’s advice) and I also had another Non-Paying Bidder who was a NR. We all have to start from zero feedback, but the ratio of newcomers with higher integrity seems to have dropped. Many dumb questions ask, as well, about things that are clearly written and answered in my listings. I am polite and just answer them again, but that ratio has also gone up substantially, in my opinion. A very nice gentleman and potential bidder ask me to call him, which I did. He was somewhat new, and wanted to talk with the seller as he was nervous due to all of the scammers that he felt had increased in numbers on  ****** You can't use the name of another auction site in this forum. That was why your thread was blocked at the source. I edited the thread and then approved it. Mark C. ***** lately, as well (making him worry about being scammed here). He ask for more information regarding how to bid and how to protect himself while using Gunbroker. We chatted for quite a while, and I explained that I had never had any bad experiences on GB, until recently. I also stated that I have “met” and dealt with a ton of super nice people here, in the last two decades or so.
It isn’t hard to stay safe here, but the people that flippantly want to retract their bid, or especially, just not pay, are a huge PITA for us sellers, wasting our time, increasing our workload, and potentially losing us money.

I happen to be bidding on one of ricci’s auctions right now, with what I reckoned at the time, to be a low ball offer.

I’ll gladly pay it, should some nr bidder not come along.

I should know better than bid after having a few...

edit: now if Ricci should happen to sweeten the deal, with say, a set of primo Jframe grips, well, that’d be okay...

The percentage of NR buyers is growing, that is good for sellers and GB Holdings, Inc.  the NPB issue will resolve itself, it is a self cleaning function.  However for every NPB I bet there are twenty that pay, in these tumultuous times the sellers and GB Holdings, Inc. both make out.  It is as much of a PIA for GB Holdings, Inc. to deal with NPB's as it it for sellers.  The seller is out time, GB Holdings, Inc. is out real money.
I truly wish there were CRIMINAL charges GB Holdings, Inc. and the stiffed seller could get upon the miscreants that give a bid then skedaddle not living up to their word and legal contractual bond.

bpost, I agree with what you are saying but there are NR's out there that get their kicks by driving up the bid and then bailing. Good for seller and GB but bad for buyer.---------Ray
