Still Planning on the family dinners, baking etc???
Comments
Yup....invited forty folks from the Bronx😲
Just the 4 of us(me, wife and the kids). Just the way I like it. I don’t like big family gatherings anyways.
No changes.
Wife and I and the kids,
Not many changes. Me, wife her brother and sister. Usually would have her brothers kids and sisters boyfriend but they have other plans with their family.
Just the wife and I for Thanksgiving. Nothing unusual as our sons always spend it with their Inlaws.
This year we will not be doing the traditional Turkey. Married 47 years and 47 turkeys later, decided to "pardon" the 2020 bird. Nothing to do with PETA or POLITICS, just not all that ripped with turkey.
I've got this whole beef tenderloin in the freezer and a part of it will grace our table along with some hopeful venison. That is if Bambi and I cross paths before that special Thursday!
No Changes despite governmental recommendations.
With the future uncertain between the election infection and elections I am shopping for the grandchildren's Christmas presents while they are available. Other than that no changes.
This year it will just Janet and I for Thanksgiving and Christmas. In other words the same as the rest of the year.
Joe
Not planning on any changes. Just us and the kids and grands like always
Just the wife and son this year.
The in-laws have decided to stay home.
Im not even a bit upset over it.
Thrilled actually.
after my mom passed few years back the traditional big dinner sort of faded also, I was usually hunting out at the cabin and now my son is usually there also, so the dinner got moved to cabin as most of relatives are there hunting also, it has become the new tradition we come in at noon and the wives have the turkey dinner ready, eat, visit, the wives go home and we hunt whatever time we have left till dark, works out well for everyone..... and we have leftover for next few days, though we did have to put a bathroom in as the outhouse got blackballed by more than a couple in the wives club
Bah! Humbug!
I hate the holidays.
I hate get-to-gathers of any kind.
I hate Christmas shopping.
We haven't decorated for at least 20 years.
But I always got roped into at least a couple gatherings.
Not this year! I'll hunt and watch some TV and the wife will read and nap.
The Covid does have some benefits. (In addition to, no one recognizes me with long hair and a mask.)
What does she mean when the Walmart greeter lady points at me and says, "Zorro does not count."?
The group of guys I hunt with have all decided to have a big Thanksgiving dinner at the camping spot we use for elk hunting. It's out in the middle of nowhere so no one else will mind, it's a big desert. It will all be outdoors except for the sleeping which will be individual tents or campers. Our weather is still super nice, mid-70's during the day and high 40's overnight.
We should have a couple of elk down by Thanksgiving for the loins and we already have 7 deer, I think. We'll fry a turkey then put together some simple side dishes while a couple of the wives will bring the things we don't make out in the field. I've packed all three of my cast iron Dutch Ovens and skillets. D.O. biscuits, Brunswick stew and maybe one more side dish. Bacon and potatoes, asparagus with mushrooms, spicy red cabbage and apples, etc.
Plenty of clean air and lots of space. A great time will be had by all!
Best.
Only difference in planning for me is that i have to watch my carbs so unfortunately I'll have to layoff the dressing some. My wife makes a great turkey and dressing.
We are going to a Friends house and there will be 12 of us. I am smoking 2 turkeys and a bacon wrapped pork loin.
We are going to have fun and get blasted.
Yes
Yes, not going to family in Portage County Ohio. Going to a friends house, the same as last year. I canceled a trip to Seattle to see my sons and grand son over Covid. I miss my family dearly.
We may change things up.
One daughter has the cooties and the other is quarantined. The one that’s positive had a coworker with it and her daughter had a couple teachers that turned out to be positive, (one was hers) So we’re not sure which way the daughter caught it. Her fever broke and now she just feels congested in the AM. So looks like she’ll be ok.
Grandkids have no symptoms. They were over here a week ago tonight for about 45 minutes at the fire pit. And that was before the daughter had symptoms so the wife and I are half way through the wait with no issues.
The quarantined daughter was notified that someone in a Dr’s waiting room had it when she was there. Then she was notified the next day that her boss had it, so she’s on double secret quarantine, but she’s feeling fine a bit over week since exposure. She has until next Thursday. We haven’t seen her for 2-3 weeks.
Bottom line, some of the older folks probably won’t come. Depending on how things shake out with kids it could be sort of small, but we can always deliver!
My parents were born and raised in Mantua, Ohio. That was where I came home to right after I was born. I'm pretty sure all my relatives from Portage Co., are all dead now.
Will be alone.
Assess. X
No you won't!
All of us are going to be here, right in from of you.
Would you mix me a drink!...while I use your bathroom?
We are scaling back this year. 2 of the older family members are hospitalized now with the virus.
Is there ANYTHING in our private lives that the government will not stick its nose into?
Yes. We usually go one of my wife's sisters for a family Thanksgiving dinner. That's been cancelled. Probably Christmas brunch will be cancelled. While I understand why, I'm going to miss the get togethers and getting out of the house. I can't watch TV all day and can't walk outside and hunt since I live in a suburb.
It will be just Martha and I (like every day) for Thanksgiving. She'll be cooking a turkey breast (not even a small turkey) and a couple of side dishes. Maybe I can talk her into having a pumpkin pie, my favorite.
Perhaps we can Zoom with family like we did at Easter. That would be nice but still not the same.
Jim
Sure I will. I will probably be working and come home to have a few.......you are more than welcome to come on over. At least I will be checking the forums.
It is ridiculous that the various states are putting out "recommendations" and "guidelines" about Thanksgiving. No gatherings with people outside of your household.....only immediate family, one person to serve food, wear masks inside, don't share utensil, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah............I have said it before and I will say it again, all of these COVID restrictions are simply a trial run for the govt. (swamp) to see what they can get away with in terms of controlling the subjects. I never thought that in my own damn country I would ever have to hear the phrase....."show me your papers pleaze (in a heavy German accent).........that is a reality in some places now.
Get ready gents...........Biden is coming.
Sounds great, no-no. Wish I could join you.
There will be 5 of us. 3 from two households in Illinois and 2 from 2 states away.
We've done this before but usually just a big game dinner in the same spot. Those with wives invite them, a couple of us do the cooking...
The C-19 situation has created a desire to have a Thanksgiving dinner outside where we can all be together and celebrate being grateful. It's a terrific group of people who all enjoy similar ideals and tastes in food. It will be a wonderful day of fun and eating!😊
Best.
Some patriotic cow will give up his rib meat to save a turkey. Good cow. Fine cow. Delicious cow.
I am heart broken to not see my family, mom is 82 two of my three brothers live in Ravenna along with mom but due to China Virus I will not be there.
NO changes.. I am sure JB Prikster and Lori Lightfoot will be all alone like they demand,,,not. I am not missing a dinner with the family, end of story.
Not a single thing. Well, one thing. I am ordering gifts early so they will get there on time because the media has stirred up such a frenzy every shelf will be bare by December 5th and all the shipping companies will be booked solid.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
