Will a .30/30 kill a whitetail deer??

I don't know. I hear they used to use them a long time ago but today's whitetails are probably a lot tougher that they were in the 1950's. And do you eat ice cream when you go to hunt deer? If so what is your favorite flavor?? I'm thinking vanilla cause I like it. Can you buy sprinkles at the grocery store??

A regular 30-30 will bounce off of these new deer. You need at least a 30-30 Magnum.
No you can not get sprinkles, they are locked down due to China virus. Eating ice cream while deer hunting will get the po-po after you The 30-30 can not, even with the perfect shot, kill a 2020-2021 season deer. It is too common and old to do the job. You must have the latest flavor like the 350 Legend (in its own mind)
the new favorite deer round here in mississippi is the 300 win mag, seriously. personally i like a .22lr, doesnt bother the neighbors too much.
30-30 is barely adequate for shooting pigeons in a barn. 458 Win Mag is marginal for deer.
boy howdy it will. Wife got her first deer ever,a lil 1x2 buck using her dad's '94 30-30. Was a great hunt, great memory. Thanks.
I will have to give up my 12ga with 2 3/4 sabot slug loads. Does any company many a 10ga 3 1/2 mag slug gun? I have my doubts about the recoil though.
Since I have seen taken with a 22, thou a few years ago, my best guess is a 30-30 will do bring down a deer. That is if you hit the poor thing.
WHITE (tail deer) LIVES MATTER
.338 Lapua is the appropriate cartridge. Front to rear.........rear to front. DRT............already made into sausage.
What is this...Barack O’Bama’s Affirmative Action Dissertation?
SC deer can out run a 30/30. Not enough velocity .
When it comes to using OLD guns, the older the better for me! This nice doe went down with a .44 diameter round ball of lead! DRT without any tracking required.
You killed a deer that was out sledding!!!!! Don
No and neither will a 270 Winchester. You must have a belted magnum to properly kill a deer and you never want to get any closer than 500 yds from a deer, on the ground or they will kill you, that is why its best to hunt from a tree. Deer are scared of heights.
This all common knowledge Ricci I am surprised you asked this question.
I love these threads. Some of you are a hoot.
An undetermined number perhaps in the thousands have succumbed to the wee little 22 LR.
It worked when I was a kid and the the deer and I didn't know any better. Now if you don't have at least a 300 gee whiz bang super magnum you might still get a deer but it would have to be jackrabbit size. Bob
I use a magnum but it is a 357, about the same ballistics as the 30-30 under a 100 yards, have gotten buck last 3 years with it.....
but as the 30-30 goes not sure it would even kill a live leaf, maybe one of the dead crumbly ones.......
It might be argued successfully that a .30-30 is just about the perfect deer round for an actual deer hunter, but not for some kind of sniper wannabe mangleum rifle owner using Hubble optics.
In fact, the humble thutty-thutty has neatly and humanely harvested a cubic trainload of deer in its time.
Well, the 8 point buck, down on my grandpa's farm in 1962, would argue the case that a 30WCF would do the job! My first deer with my first rifle (Winchester Model 94 Carbine). No ice cream, but I think I might have had a Honey Bun with me! 🦌

I tried to sight mine in at 100 yards, but the bullets kept bouncing off the paper target!
If you want the deer to expire just by having the bullet pass within ten yards of it, then no, 30-30 will not do. If you neck shoot exclusively (learned it from WDM Bell) as I do, 30-30 is more than enough. Sorry, not looking to offend anyone by these comments.
No,🤞
I will give you $ 100.00 to take that crow bar off your hands.
Just get a sling and a nice round stone.......it took out Goliath without a problem...😊
could roger staubach run, same comparrison not by todays standards. history just dont know
Only if you hold it just the right way.
Absolutely not. UNLESS someone picks it up and uses it properly.
...Yes a 30-30 will kill deer, and a lot of other things. I used a 30-30 Marlin for years...out to 150 yards it should do the job.
I started using my 06 after they started making small grain 06 rounds, If I remember, 180-185grn. was all you could get in 06 for a long time, too big for a 100lb doe foe meat. A heart/lung shot w/a 30-30 works fine out to a 125 yds or so ...🙂
none of them will kill a deer if ya cant hit them😂
Yup, works good if you get within 150 yards. light to carry too.
Really? It has killed many. Why are we talking about ice cream in the same post?
Well, it's no 32 Winchester Special, but it'll do.
just don't mix up the oil change.
I still have Dads 94 in 32 special in the safe. I also have a box of 60 or so year old hollow point ammo for it. Dad said he tried the HP ammo and it just ruined way too much meat, so I have a box of 19. Obviously a way over powered cartridge for white tails. 😉 Bob
I have my dads 94 in 32 also. He bought it brand new in '54 and it's one of my favorite guns. It's accounted for a bunch of deer and at least one elk.
I take it out and let it run a couple times a year. The darn things are just a hoot to shoot!
Nice, I didn't realize that deer liked sledding. If they ski, I wonder if they have two bindings on each ski?
I guess you missed the wink at the end of my post. Dad was born in 1908 on a farm in Ohio and other than the interruption caused by WWII, hunted white tails his entire life. He was an excellent shot both with his 94 Winchester in 32 special and his 99 Savage in 250. Going through the depression made him frugal in regards to not wasting venison. He said he shot one deer with the hollow point 32 special and had too much blood shot meat so never used them again. That is why I have a box with one missing. Do I really think it is too big for deer? Of course not, it was a joke. My first deer rifle was a 94 in 30/30 and I have carried it often in the last 50 or so years here in Michigan. The last deer it took was a couple of years ago when I loaned it to a young lady who promptly shot a nice little buck on opening morning. I have way to many rifles in various deer appropriate calibers so I am not the person to ask about why people buy and use the calibers they do. Bob
Well, if you don't think a 30-30 (30 WCF) will cut it for Whitetail Deer, then step up to a Winchester Model 1894 SRC chambered in 38-55! 🙂 Yes, that's my old Winchester!

How did you manage to lean it against that deer without waking him??
That is my Don impression. 😁😁😁
It was full from all that corn that it ate and was sound asleep!
