Anyone own one in a 357 ? Good or bad about them
Comments
i had one, gave it to my son. ruger strong, accurate, very nice revolver.
We have one with the 2 3/4" barell. First thing, replace the factory grips with Houge grips. The factory grips are small and hard to get a good grip of gun. They are also a plastic molded grip that does nothing to absorb recoil.
With the houge grips, my wife shot a dozen or so rounds of .357 mag. With .38 rounds she just kept shooting, over and over.
I shot the gun repeatedly with both .357 or .38
We also shot our 6 3/4" .44 magnum that day. Wife shot the .44 mag more than she shot the .357 with the short barrel. The recoil was less on the long barell .44 than of the short barell .357.
One of the best 5 shots out there. Easy to put a front night sight on and a ton of holsters.
I have 2 the only downside I have with them is the weight for pocket carry
I like them a lot. Like Gary said, heavy for carry, and they all need the 'Ruger trigger job', but minus that a very heavy duty revolver that will handle anything you throw at it.
Replace the factory grips as another member said.
A bit too heavy for my taste.
I have had one for 10 years or so and love it. I still have the factory grips but just shoot 38 spl. If I would change to .357 mag, I would change the grips. I'm not one of those big hairy guys and a few rounds of .357 would probably put my wrist in a cast. Yes, a little heavy but that helps with .357.
Have had a couple of 357s but just a first run 327 now.
i don't know if Smith still makes them? But they use to make a 357 snubbie, that weighed 13 ounces. Years back one of the resident gunshop commandos. Was bragging on how it was his EDC, and how good he was with it. He got very offended when I posted that the only way he was going to hit anything with it. Is if he was in the same phone booth, (dating myself. I haven't seen a phone booth in 20 years), with who he was shooting at. Told me I was a wimp, and it was easily controllable.
I have one in every caliber in which they have been manufactured. I prefer the .327 Federal, with .357 second. Solid recoil, but a nice revolver. I carry a Colt King Cobra for the extra round, a Smith 60-15 is my second choice and the .327 my third. I also like the Sp-101 in 9mm.
I have one with Crimson Trace grips.............Iove it.
First time I took mine out, I hit a paper plate (at almost 100 yards) 4 out of 5 shots.
I was happy, and still am.
will last you 2 life times i like mine
KSP-321-XL was the one I owned. Perfect for dropping into a back jeans pocket. Guy was selling all his guns due to a divorce or protection order, I forgot, on consignment in Oakhurst CA. I also picked up my Colt Double Eagle .40S&W Commander for $525 from the same seller. Themz were the days .
Mine is in 327 not the 357 you asked about. Mine also has the crimpson laser grips. I like it.
Was you aiming at a leaf? Don
It was a plate for wedding cakes bigger than a garbage can cover!
OK :
Got one ( 2.5" stainless : 357) in the safe , Never been loaded or shot ?
I must agree on the grip change !
My 'Go-To' 357 is a 3" model 65 stainless S&W ....
I really like this caliber .....
Thanks !!!
I Grew Old Too Fast (And Smart Too damn Slow !!!) !!! :?
Most likely going with a 3" barrel. Thanks for the advice.
I keep mine in the door panel of the truck, it is the stainless 3" model, it shoots better than my eyes can see, easy to clean and has taken a few years of rattling around in the door panel without any major scratching or abuse, about the only time it is out of the door it is in the side by side getting dirty and dusty, allways goes bang for me....... though I do have to agree I much prefer to shoot the 38's over the 357's at the range if you are gonna shoot more than a few cylinders, I also have the hogue grips
Mine has the 3" barrel with target sights. It's fairly accurate.
I really like the Talo exclusive 3” version.
I also like this 3” Lipseys exclusive SP101
