talked myself out of it
I saw on news where the Aurora Borealis is going to be visible tonight in the northern US. Almost booked a room at the Hilton/Hampton in Mason City, IA. In my car, a roundtrip would have been less than $200 for gas and room. Alas, not sure if Shiggles is up for a car ride that far yet. Its a 9-hour drive one way. Been up through there many times on the way to the Cities. Did the drive in one day so no biggie for a spur of the minute adventure.
Decided that with Shiggie still getting used to traveling and needing to catch up around the farm I will just have to make the trip to Alaska some day to see the lights. Who knows, it may be underestimated and be visible from my back porch (not likely here in Southern Missouri). I actually had credit card in hand to make the reservation. Lol.

That would have been a cool trip, but a bit of a long one for the pup. What part of Missouri are you in? I'm in the southwest part of the state.
Let me give you a little taste.....
Up at Big Lake
Over the Chugach Mtns from my house
Down along Turnagain Arm
Few years ago Jack Daniels helped me see that. (in Oklahoma)
Can't find delete for the 2nd post????????????????
Thanks for the heads up. We saw the Northern Lights here in 02 or 03. We got out the lawn chairs and watched them from the driveway. Might do that again tonight. 😀
BTW, we are in west central Ohio.
susie, just knock on nanuq's door and save the hotel bill!
Not much chance we will see them in the UP 70% cloud cover tonight.
I went to Arctic man for several years, the night lights were awesome when viewed from atop a mountain sitting on a snow machine. It seemed like you could reach up and touch them. Lord knows, I miss Alaska!!!!!
Southeast Missouri, little hole in the wall. I live about 10 miles east of Doniphan.
Awesome pictures. Makes me wish I had made the drive.
Glad I stayed home. No lights in the lower 48 last night. Scale was predicted at 7 and only hit 4. Tonight's prediction is 6 so an even lower chance.
I may have to load up Shiggles and take a very long road trip in the future. I would like to see the giant trees on the west coast as well as the lights.
WOOOOOOOOHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Arctic Man!!!!!!!!!
