An opinion on mask wearing

Wearing a cloth mask to filter out a virus is like wearing a chicken wire mask to filter out dirt.............

This is simply an excercise by our government to see just how far they can alarm the populace and offer a "protection".............which they then mandate.

Folks............they are seeing exactly what level of control can be put on the peons.

I dont know which side I am on on the mask wearing, but who is trying to control whom and why?

  • US Military GuyUS Military Guy Member Posts: 3,642 ✭✭✭✭

The folks making the rules are trying to control the folks that the rules are directed toward.

The reason is because the folks that make the rules like to make rules . . . especially if the rules don't apply to them.

Non N95 masks have marginal effect, but do help minimize spread of infected individuals to others.

In a hospital environment anything is better than nothing.

Out in the open air, they are pointless.

Out in public they are mostly pointless, so many wear them wrong anyway. More likely to get it from touching surfaces then touching your eyes/mouth/nose, which most of us do a LOT more when wearing the uncomfortable mask you have to readjust all the time.

Kinda like a screen door on a SUBMARINE😲?

99 cent Chinese masks are like a tire with a spike in it. I am not a clinical doctor nor do I play one, well sometimes with women, but "surfaces" then touching your eye, nose ect. is where you get it unless someone is blowing up chunks and has the Chinese virus.

The more people wearing masks, the higher the infection rate - at least that's what is happening.

The same folks who claim that more cars equals more global warming don't seem to be making the same kind of conclusion with regards masks. Funny, that, huh?

It's easier to put one on than it is to argue with Karens every time I need to buy groceries. But I think it's completely pointless.

    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Just like gloves it all depends on proper use and other factors. When I see pictures of droves of people in downtown night clubs and elsewhere all maskless, no social distancing Etc. Its just a matter of time.

Schools open seems like Russian roulette see if the kids survive it kinda like Chicken pox parties back in the day!

Either way with my immune system depleted I wear a mask IF i go around people to help protect me. I have always avoided crowds anyway :)

Why don't we go to school and work on the weekends and take the week off!
  • BobJudyBobJudy Member Posts: 6,630 ✭✭✭✭

I am in much the same boat and do wear a mask when I have to be around people. It doesn't hurt and maybe there is some benefit. Of course I can also now justify turning into an anti-social curmudgeon. 😀 Bob

I'm no expert so I won't profess to know the efficacy of wearing a mask. Those establishments that post signs saying masks required will see me in a mask. I respect that it is their business and will abide by their rules. When none are required I'm not reminded that one might be needed so I usually don't wear one. Masking has not become a habit so it takes a gentle reminder that one might be needed.

About the only thing I think it does for me is remind me that when I get in my truck or car I need to sanitize my hands, keys, and door handles I touched getting inside the vehicle.

I'm of the opinion that unless someone has sneezed/coughed on me the mask is just a feel good measure. Touching something that may have been contaminated and then touching a mucus excreting orifice (mouth/nose/eyes) is more than likely the most prevalent way of spreading. Having the mask on reminds me not to do this when out and about. An itchy eye in days gone by would have seen me giving it a rub. Not anymore.

Most establishments excuse younger children from wearing masks. We aren't seeing a massive amount of children becoming ill. Conspiracy theories abound in my head. History will tell the truth of what we have seen this year.

I wear one if it's required, but I only leave the house once every couple of weeks so it's not that big of deal.

We now have a vaccine so safe they want to force you to take it, to combat a disease so deadly you have to be tested to know if you have it.

Added: In the 17th Century, people wore pike bones around their necks to ward off the Black Plague. In the 21st Century, we wear masks to ward off Coronavirus. The two preventatives may prove to be equally effective.

The issue isn't in the wearing of a mask, it is the government telling us we have to wear masks. I support an individual business owner's right to ask people to wear a mask. I can choose to shop there or not. I support anyone's individual decision to wear a mask. I do not support the governor telling me to wear a mask and see it for what it is. IMO you are wrong, it is about control.

Are there more "infections" than earlier this year?

Are more people wearing masks than earlier this year?

Is wearing masks effective to control the "infections"?

Let me help you with the hard parts.

    Yes

    Yes

    Apparently not.

For months we have been protecting ourselves from COVID using technologies that were available to the cave men..... masks and avoiding other people. If it wasn't for the constant panic of the news media, self-appointed experts, and publicity-seeking state and local politicians, few of us would know that the virus exists.

A fence won't keep ticks off your property but it will keep out horses that carry ticks.

If no one has explained the water droplet thing, its probably too late now.

I can't believe they misspelled "Pork and Beans!"
  • chmechme Member Posts: 1,472 ✭✭✭✭

6 more months of wearing the KN95 masks, we are all going to have ears like Prince Charles.....

  • Rocky RaabRocky Raab Member Posts: 14,433 ✭✭✭✭

bustedknee, if no one has explained to you that the fog on your glasses is made up of water droplets you exhaled into your mask, it is probably too late for you, too.

So what may have been a droplet that "dropped" to the floor and got squished to the bottom of your shoe, will be atomized and jetted up past the nose or back out the mask, where it will hang in the air for minutes. The next person walking by gets it in their eyes or on their clothes or hair only to infect them.

But why are you out in public when you are sick?

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention strongly recommend that persons with symptoms or known infection wear masks to prevent transmission of SARS-CoV-2 to others.

Science has proven that being happy, laughing and getting hugs boosts the immune system. Eating healthy, washing hands, getting sleep and all the other things we know are good for the health will do far more than a mask. The long term devastation of wearing a mask will take time to extrapolate, but higher suicide rates are being experienced already. People are in general more miserable and irritable lately because there are less smiles and friendly interactions. Humans are a social critters.

I had some idiot in the store try and shame me into wearing a mask, because he didn't want his family to get sick. I pointed to the garbage in his shopping cart and called him out on his lies.

The government is seeing what level of fear they can project to the sheeple and how the sheeple respond.

  • mohawk600mohawk600 Member Posts: 5,526 ✭✭✭✭

They only work if you are in construction and are trying not to breath sawdust or insulation..............the masks do nothing against viruses that measure in the realm of nano particles.

  • mohawk600mohawk600 Member Posts: 5,526 ✭✭✭✭

I work in a grocery store environment.............I touch packages that hundreds of people also touch.............they touch what I touch. I have been working through the "pandemic" and I think I may have already got it. Am I gonna get tested for antibodies???????? No. I go about my life as normal and I am just fine.

Can you smell cigarette smoke through your mask? Yes? Then it's not protecting you against the virus.

  • SoreShoulderSoreShoulder Member Posts: 3,148 ✭✭✭

    Too true.

The paper masks are more effective because they have a denser weave, though. I think around 60%. If you maintain social distancing, they will decrease your chances of getting sick by quite a bit.

I picked up a mask from Target that was reusable. The outside is cloth but there is a washable filtration element inside that is probably better at filtering out viruses than cloth.

  • SoreShoulderSoreShoulder Member Posts: 3,148 ✭✭✭

Even a cloth mask will stop fluid droplets which can be generated when a person speaks, coughs, or sneezes. The droplets can carry spores. They will also stop you from spreading your germs in case you have been infected.
