Solstice and Planets and Winter...Oh My!

Today is the Solstice, marking the shortest daylight of the year and the official start of winter. Also, by coincidence, there will also be a once-in a lifetime conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn. If the sky is clear for you, look to the southwest about an hour after sunset to see this sight.
I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Hope the clouds go away so I can see
The Solstice happens every year, and the Conjunction happens about every 20 yrs. Whats different this year is the Conjunction happens on the Solstice, and the last time the two planets were this close together was March 4th, 1226AD.
Pretty neat... we're in the mother of all blizzards here, hope to see it in a couple days.
Cloudy & snow tonight. Best chance to see anything this week will be tomorrow night and hope the sky clears as predicted.
Solid cloud cover here in Meigs County OH seeing the tops of the trees is difficult.
I consider the 21 of December the first day of summer, we are gaining daylight after that! June 21st is the first day of winter because we are losing daylight until summer again.
Lucked out with a clear sky tonight, and it is a gorgeous sight. Bright Jupiter and golden Saturn a fingernail apart. Can pick out a moon or two of Jupiter with binos.
I saw it tonight but I couldn't get my old telescope to function. So how many days will this be visible??
Taken tonight
Wow!
I would like to take credit for the picture but I can’t. My friend who lives in pigeon forge tn took it on his I-phone. The camera in these new phones are incredible.
we parked on a hill and watched it last evening with binos....neat.....also watched the last eclipse of the moon and when it got dark your could see a zillion stars in the milky way that did not usually show....we are but a tiny spot in infinity
Tule fog so thick I can't even see the car in the driveway!
Was able to see it here but just barely as we had some thin clouds up high.
Great picture, Mr. Shaw! Thank your buddy for us!
That's from an iphone?? Wow thats better than the view from my 5" schmidt maksutov telescope. Although I could see several moons from each planet....
Missed it I will catch it next time around.
I saw it, It was pretty cool. Mars was out and very bright as well. Very orange last night.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
