I remember watching him pitch for the Braves back in the ‘80’s. Every game was on TBS. One of the TBS announcers nicknamed him Knucksie, a play on his name and his knuckle ball pitches.

RIP
Liked the nail file. RIP
I was on the Atlanta Braves ground crew in 1969. When it rains, a dozen guys roll out a big 3 foot diameter piece of steel pipe, 40 feet long, that has a huge tarp rolled up around it.
I was one of those guys.
I got to watch Phil pitch for free from the right field fence. He was a hell of a pitcher.
My screen name is in honor of Phil, the only man I ever saw that threw slower and more junk than me 😂 but it was his brother Joe while pitching for Houston was caught with one in his back pocket during a game and was suspended 😀, like the old coaches always says " if you ain't cheat'en you ain't trying ". Both were credits to baseball, may both RIP.

loved to watch him pitch, dont believe he ever threw a strike in his life.
Junkballer, correct me if wrong, catchers hate knuckleballers because they don’t know where the ball is going and have to chase down a lot of passed balls.
Your correct, even the pitchers don't know where it's going when it's released, everyone hates it including the umpires 😀. It moves very much like a butterfly as it flies and about the same speed too.....😁

Wonder if my Niekro cards are worth more now........
As Bob Uecker was quoted as saying on Johnny Carson: “The way to catch a knuckleball is to wait until it stops rolling, then go pick it up.” 😂
