Lock Opening

Decided to pick a new hobby. Bought a lock opening kit on Amazon. Looking for any advice.
Do I need a set of Top Of Key pry bars? Seems like that's the only way to get into a basic Master lock or an American lock.
Had a set of Harbor Freight imitation master locks on the shelf. That thing is easier to open than the lucite plastic practice lock.
FYI, never tell people at work you're thinking about a new hobby. They look at you like you can't be trusted.

I changed the "P" word to the word OPEN.
Did autocorrect and touchscreen choose a bad p word?
I have always wanted to try this..........as a hobby. Let us know how it goes for you. Never know when you might lock yourself out of a house or car.
Last time I locked myself out of a car that I had recently bought (didn't have a hidden spare yet)........the locksmith showed up and instead of using a "slim jim" or trying to pick it.......he prised open the door from the frame enough to insert pneumatic bladders that inflated with a bulb similar to that on a blood pressure cuff. Took the insertion of a few of them at strategic points, but he was able to open up enough space to get a tool inside and flip the handle lock. It was impressive. Didn't warp/bend/or cause any damage to the door.
I see menards is selling those air bags now. Thought of buying a couple.
I can attest to the fact that they work.
you tube and the internet has made opening a safe or a lock well seem easy for the most part the are I watch some just a few nights ago using the hi power earth magnets on box store safes . a thin strip of metal for pad locks , jam keys you just put into a lock and hit, so much information out there but then again locks are there just to keep honest people honest
I am not sure how the laws are now but long ago if you got caught with a set of lock pick tools and did not have lock smith shop or licenses ? you could be charged with having criminal tools or B&E . but that was long ago
when I was just a little brat I had a cousin teach me to open pad locks with a bobby pin I will guess most all you know what they are 😁
Practice is key (pun intended) to getting good. Get multiple locks with different key styles and keep trying them. You will start to feel when each pin sets. The pressure on the tension bar s important as well, too much binds everything up.
You're right Capt. When others find out, you're automatically a suspect.
YouTube lockpicking lawyer makes it look easy.
Dang that HF lock is easy!
I'm practicing with my new smart phone. I didn't know if I could download a picture and post it or not. Nice to have when you spend as much time as I do at the hospital and doctor's offices with my wife.
I haven't had a smart phone since my company phone before I retired. Amazing how far they've come.
Bosnian Bill is also very adept.
Back when I was a Parts Manager at a local Chevy dealer, one of my duties was to also be the locksmith. It was something I enjoyed doing when I was able to do it in the back without any distractions. But to try it at the parts counter was a recipe for disaster with all the commotion that went on there.

A friend showed me how to open a standard Master lock with a dead blow hammer. A piece of cord through the opening, put some pressure on it, whack the side of the lock with the hammer a couple of times, Voila!
I got quite good at picking locks many moons ago when working in the jail.
Now a 48" bolt cutter works much faster.
Just sayin'.

I bought a motorcycle a couple of years ago with no key.The switch had to be unlocked so I could remove it to take to a locksmith to have a key made.I bought a lock pick kit on Amazon and had every lock(set, helment lock, ignition)on the motorcycle opened in 5 minutes.
Hahaha........that is called "the key to the city"..........
