The Things The Obsessed Do

If ya don't have a person in your life with an obsession, you probably don't understand. I came home and texted my husband to ask why the kitchen smelled like a weird mix of acid, sweat, and all around weirdness... and just got this back:

And now he's holed up in his "work room," aka our guest bedroom ever since we lost our shop during the endless lockdowns, working on details (that NO ONE WILL EVER, NOR HAVE THEY EVER NOTICED) of a gun he plans to sell. I thought it was bad enough when he and 5 friends set up a pulley system to get his lathe up the stairs to get it into the bedroom... using the excuse of course he didn't want it stolen from the storage building (you know, incase Superman comes by and hauls the thing off). However, nope. I've now learned over the past few months. We could be living in the woods, and he will build an Archimedes Kiln to smelt iron, make his own steel, just to tinker with it. Oy.

As rants go, that ranks about a 2.5.

@bustedknee well it wouldn't bother me as much if it didn't bother HIM so much when most of the people who buy a customized gun off of him either never notice changes that he's made, don't understand the purpose behind some of the changes, or just buy them because they are pretty - and again never notice the functional changes he makes. I have to remind him (he's on the spectrum, why I've always handled customer service, sales... chatting on forums, etc, even in online games lol) that he started modifying weapons back when he carried one for a living. Half the people that would come into the shop, or even now, are literally buying an AR-15 or an LR-308 or a Bolt action .338 LM etc etc because they think they are cool, or they watched youtube videos about them, or they think the world is a movie, etc, and honestly don't know what they are looking at anyway.

@jimdeere 2.5? On a scale of 1-5, right in the middle. Where I like my rants to land! Somewhere between "woe is me" and "my God this man is going to be the death of me." While at the same time managing a bit of nonchalance and decorum.

It appears to me, some people's obsessions seem to make them happy.

Mine keep me busy, off the street.

I can't believe they misspelled "Pork and Beans!"

Welcome to the forums. We use a 1-10 scale, you'll really have to step it up if you want to reach the level of a middling rant.
