I thought quitting drinking would save me a small fortune

Yesterday marked 18 weeks of sobriety, but instead of saving money, I've rediscovered the joy of guns, ammo, and reloading, and I think I'm actually spending more. It seems I've been on a spending frenzy of late. I have a ton of reloading equipment and supplies arriving this week, and I've already decided on my next two rifle purchases. I'm really looking forward to reloading again and the level of relaxation it brings me. I enjoy some free stuff as well, like hikes through the woods and spending more time with my rather large pack of dogs. Life is good!

I thought the same about quitting smoking, but I put the money in pretzels for about a month anyway, good luck and if you get the urge just stop and think to yourself, why???? hope you can kick it, sounds like you have a great start.....
A very good start. I know it’s not the same, but I gave up nicotine gum and vaping on Jan. 1.
I set milestones for myself and rewards for reaching them.
Hang in there, your body will thank you.
Great job Jim. I reward myself as well for milestones, it works well.
Congratulations. A good friend of mine reached 18 years of sobriety this week. It was tough getting there, but he did it and he keeps working at it every single day.
I'll add that he's a lot more fun to be with sober than he was when he was drinking!
I haven't had any alcoholic beverage since 1985.

I haven't had any alcoholic beverage since 19:85.
Of course moderation is the key. I drink some and will continue until hell freezes over. NOTHING like I used to. Good luck/
I am working on year four and there is still no boat in my driveway! Don
It doesn't bother me if other people drink, I just can't do moderation. Where as a normal person, might have a couple of shots, I would have the bottle.
Good for you, a man has to know his limits.
Or strengths.
I have drank beer since I was 14, sometimes too much. But I enjoy it to this day and as long as I don't let it cause problems I shall continue. My current job has me on call every other week, it has definitely cut down on my beer consumption, but it hasn't helped any other factor. Now I spend more on non alcohol beverages (flavored seltzer water), and I probably eat more.
I don't drink pop, don't eat sweets, don't smoke. Beer is my one vice and I won't apologize for it.
Nice to see some good company here. I haven't had a drop in three months. I had been drinking every night for far longer than I want to admit, and coming from a long line of alcoholics I figured I better make a choice. Booze destroyed my Dad and I saw myself following the same path he took.
Congrats on the sobriety . Takes a lot of willpower . Very rarely drink anymore . Saw it becoming a problem 30 years ago and changed my ways
There are issues with alcohol in my family so I saw the writing on the wall about 33 years ago....A close family member told me they were working hard on their sobriety and I told them that night if they quit I quit...that way the person could always call me day or night if they were having a desire to drink etc.....It has worked out well for both of us all these years.....
The 2nd thing that sealed the deal for me was due to a part of my job about that time....I worked with many folks in the court system for Reckless Homicide and interviewed victim families and set up services for both offender and victims...it was gut wrenching work....
So Good job on the sobriety....Day at a time step at a time....
