This is coming up at an auction this week and I know nothing about Lugers so I'm hoping you guys can help.

It was made in Germany in the Luger factory, perhaps?
Do you have pics of the top toggle & under the barrel?
Do you have the original box?
No box
Wartime production(1940) by Mauser(42) code. I thought most of them had a byf on them too. The parts I see are all matching except the magazine.
Nice looking gun.
Thanks guys!
Sam nailed it; it is called a "code 42", a common WW2 era Luger. This model is not marked "byf".
It appears to be original finish, but photos are not quite good enough to be sure. There are potential problems that could drastically reduce the value, so I would not buy without a guaranty that also includes shipping both ways. You don't want to pay a lot if "import marked". Since the Germans used corrosive ammo in WW2, value would drop dramatically if there is rust or corrosion in the bore or on the breech block (where the firing pin is). Same for inside the frame, or hidden areas of internal parts.

Thanks Neal, there don't appear to be any import marks, the auction states that it is a GI bring back.
The 44 on the left side plate seems a little different. I seem to remember that the side plate was taken from bring back Lugers. Companies like Sarco offered replacements.
My humble opinion is, the more photos the better as far as determining the condition of an item before purchasing.
Guessing it fetched 2k. And?
This topic was posted 1 year ago, Mr Yaz. Most of the folks who commented have lost interest. Best not to stir up the dust in the archive warehouse.

" Best not to stir up the dust in the archive warehouse." @nmyers Neal, just curious why? Seems like a new member just commented on a post he was interested in... besides maybe it will bring @ridgleyart back he hasn't posted in awhile, but what do I know...
Interesting firearm threads should never get old especially on a firearm site.....that's only my opinion though but I'll stand by it. Besides some of us may have missed it the first go-round.... I did.
