Going camping there in September and looking for things to do. We don’t gamble so the casino is out but what is there to do in that area?

wife and I were there but that was 40 + years ago so I am sure it has changed a lot and would not even be close to what we saw , maybe do a internet search
I also think some one living close by will chime in on some ideas as being local
have fun on your trip
Casino, food, tourist trap, fishing, hiking, rafting, looking at elk. That is it.
Drive a bit to Asheville, Biltmore estates.
They have camping. Don
Don has not changed - LOL
Go drive the Tail of the dragon.
One of my favorite areas . Take time to go to Maggie Valley to the Wheels of Time motorcycle museum .The cherokees have an outdoor drama detailing the Trail of Tears and a recreation Indian village . You are within easy driving distance of Cade's Cove In tenn . If you have any interest in history it is a must see . The problem is too much to see and do instead of too little . Biltmore house in Asheville is a whole mother thing .And there is always driving the blue ridge parkway
Parkway & a drive thru Robinsville & across the Cherahala Hwy. Stay away from Ashville & tail of the dragon.
Ole Smoky distillery.

Easy drive into the Great Smokey Mountains Natl. Park. Been some time since I was there, but there was a LOT of fishing, restaurants with froglegs, and plenty of tourist shop ops.
If you really want to see the mountains in a different way take a trail ride on horseback . Smoke mount stables are very close to Cherokee. There is also rafting in the creeks and streams and fishing for trout .Dollywood in Pigeon Forge is a reasonable drive . If you do go don't miss Smokey Mountain Knife works
Thanks for all the ideas. We are staying in the KOA in our camper. I like to fish.

That poor horse would take a look at me and die of a heart attack
DRINK.......
+1 on Smoky Mountain Knife Works.
They have some good rafting I believe that is where I was around. Not dramatic class 5 but a lot of fun. Ran into some very nice BBQs NC style. The women got wet while rafting was a nice sight to see if you get my wave.
Harrahs was an awesome place to eat at the time and the scenery around that was excellent. Course it's been 10 years ago.
Well if you get bored don't be cutting the tops off parking meters with a pipe cutter. If I learned anything from Cool Hand Luke it is that.
About 15 years ago I saw an 18 pound brown trout caught out of the river in Cherokee. They have their own hatchery and when the brooders get old they stock them in the river.
That would be nice to hook into one that big. It would definitely be a wall hanger as I don’t think one that big would taste very good.
