Stopped at local gun shop yesterday to browse. Grabbed two boxes of .223 and a box of .44 mag for brother. On the wall are four Ruger .44 rifles. Three are lever action and one is a sem-auto. I'm thinking my mini-14 needs a buddy.
Owner wants $1k for the semi-auto. Should I pull the trigger, lol?

There are several variations of the s/a which makes a difference, or at least did. Some were going in the 7-800 range before. ARe the lever actions more reasonable?

You were able to walk into a store and actually BUY some .44mag? Wow. I was able to buy 4 boxes in August, until I came back that afternoon for more and the shop owner found out what happened and cut me off. They keep some on the shelf ONLY to be sold with a new weapon.
Yep. Brother has it now for his short armed offspring's offspring. Lol. I come from a long line of short folks. When we did the great gun divide that is one that he acquired. #1 is wanting a deer gun, and although she is 5'7" she likes a smaller firearm. Looking into getting her a .44.
The .44 ammo was in a drawer in a cabinet and not on display. One has to ask for it to obtain it.
They made the Ruger lever's (Model 96) in 4 calibers - 22lr, 22wmr, 17hmr and 44 mag. I have one of each and was tempted to take them to Kasey with the last bunch a couple of weeks ago, but just was not ready to get rid of them. Nice little guns.
According to my spreadsheet, I bought the 44 Mag in August, 2008 at the Kull-Supica auction in Topeka Kansas as NIB for $425, the 22 Mag (nice but no box) at a local gun show in October, 2008 for $300, the 17 (nice but no box) at Rock Island Auction in June 2016 for $450 and the 22 lr at a local gun auction in August 2007 for $220. I could probably at least get my money back on them........
My guess would be closer to double than break even. I'd like to get one in .44 mag.
I'td feel right at home with my #3, 77/44, and Marlin lever .44.
