General forum thread behavior question

Does anyone know what happens to pinned "Announcement" threads if you dismiss them? I thought they just went back into the regular (i.e. non-pinned) thread sequence... you know the default behavior that they move up toward the top when someone posts a new comment to it? Apparently they do not, however? <-- I don't know.
Here's a "for example" I can cite:
In the Politics forum, Grumpygy's thread titled "Really need to get them out of Afganistan" (sorry for the link I can't get it to go away when I paste the text) is a "stickied" thread in that forum that I dismissed ages ago, by accident or on purpose I can't now remember. Anyway, I just posted a new comment on it and it did not move up in the thread list (*note: I am not trying to plug that thread in this forum, it's just my only ready example) and I have no idea how far I'd have to scroll down to find it, but apparently it's several pages back (I stopped looking). The only way I was able to find it to post to it was via searching.
Any help would be appreciated. Maybe @GB Marketing knows?

I unpinned the this will affect all of us thread in this forum. When someone replied to it at 12:53, it bounced to the top.

I don't know, although after I dismiss a thread I'm not inclined to locate it and post in it. As a favor to you, I posted in that same thread, which I also dismissed a long time ago.
Although I know that my post is there : indicated as the most recent in the Political Forum, the thread is not visible to me. I tried logging out and back in, and it remains dismissed.
Short answer- I have no answer. Sr. Moderator MontanaJoe (who will continue acting as an admin) is pretty good with this "stuff". Failing that, you can go to GBMarketing.

@Mr. Perfect I didn't see anything in the forums help docs with "dismissed" posts. However, I will send a ticket to vanilla support to see if they can shed light. Is this happening with posts that are announcements and dismissed, or all posts that are dismissed?
I got a chuckle out of this. I didn't remember any post I made in the fishin' hole forum, so I went and checked. Low and behold, it was a moved thread. LOL

I just posted on the thread and it brought back to the top of politics.
I don't think it will show for you if you dismissed it. Can you see it at top of politics now, Mr.P ??
Joe, I dismissed the thread and now, with your post, I can see the thread again. I'm guessing that if you post in a thread which you have dismissed, although I continue to wonder why anyone (other than Mr. P) would want to do this? the thread remains dismissed and you can't view it.
In the meantime, I'd prefer to direct our focus on forum member behavior and not forum "thread behavior."
I can, so maybe Mark is correct that someone who hasn't dismissed it has to post in it for it to go back to the top. Sorry for the distraction, but I am thankful for the help and for getting this answered.

So far as I know, the only posts I am able to dismiss are ones marked as announcements. And once I dismiss them I can only see them again if I actually search for them, or... apparently if a Sr. Moderator comments on the thread.
