Give away- winner @roy222
So, back around the spring of 2002, my grandfather passed away. I was working as a mason, and was off for the winter.
I helped aunts, uncles, and cousins clean out the house, and move my grandmother to Wisconsin.
These were destined for the dump, I pulled them out of the box, before I threw it off the trailer.
No idea what my grandfather was doing with them, as he didn't own a pistol, let alone a 38sw.
They've been in my safe ever since, and need to go. I don't reload, and don't own a firearm that would shoot them.
Up for grabs is 100 primed 38 Smith & Wesson, (copper) primed cases.
What you see is the only thing I know about them.
Please only enter if you could use them, or know someone who could. Not for resale, please.
1 box is a little squished, 1 box looks pretty good, for its age.
I'll have a daughter draw a name on Friday night.
Edit to add: shipping on me

Nice giveaway, I'm gonna do one in the morning for some used brass, don't count me in for yours I'm cleaning out some of my own.
Have a Webley that likes them, I'm in.
Question, if these are indeed copper, why aren't they tarnished?
What else ya got?
I actually have a lot of 38 super, 9mm, 45/70, and 45acp dirty, picked up brass. In piles, in various locations, and currently hiding.
So if whoever wins this, wants a hodge podge of other brass, I can throw it in.
Not a huge amount, though
Add me please.
How you going to ship them?
Very nice, please add me. I LOVE those old boxes!

Copper primed cases might be mercuric.

I believe copper primers were used in conjunction with black powder loads. They are not as powerful as later nickel plated primers. Nearly all the ammo I have tried had dead primers.
If anyone still wants them, I'll send them
I would still be in, if don't go off, pop out primers and use brass........... thanks again for offer
I'm still in
Many, many years ago I had a war time 38 Smith and Wesson revolver chambered in a 38 Smith and Wesson cartridge. I learned reloading with that cartridge but that revolver has been gone for 40 years or more but you are bringing back memories!!
I'm still in and still hopeful. Thanks.
Those are cases made of copper, with silver colored primers. I don't know what those are but they are not like the 19th century ammunition with copper colored primers.
The British and some other nations apparently kept using mercuric primers into the 1950s.
The internet said Styrofoam was developed in 1954 and the US supposedly switched mostly away from mercuric priming decades before that. So the styrofoam trays suggest those cases and primers are post 1954.
I'm still in also
Please include me! I have a 38 SW and the dies to reload for it.
Thanks,
Jim
My 6 yr old daughter drew @ROY222 out of the hat.
