saw something odd.......
mid 60's today so I loaded the side by side up and headed to the cabin to fill feeder and change game camera. no trees down so didn't take long so decided since weather nice go for little ride. Hadn't been to my sons stand since last fall, so headed there, have a gate to go through on the way, below the road was a small pine maybe inch or two thick, rubbed raw, and has been recently as you could smell the pine, it is at least 10 feet or more from any larger trees or anything that could rub it. I could see a doe coming into late heat, but the bucks have lost their horns and wouldn't be able to rub the bark off without horns would they????? there was still strips of bark hanging, and it had to be done in last few days, the other small pine less than couple feet away hadn't been touched, just seemed strange......

Hog?
I have seen a couple bucks in the area still sporting their headgear......I was surprised to see them.
Just for clarity.....Whitetail Bucks !!! 😉
if you don't behave, I'm gonna send Ricci some gas money to come and park his van in your front yard and stay a few weeks.........
My bet is a black bear.
while we have them, I think the tree is to small, he would just break it off, only inch or so around.......
Saw 4 bucks in the last 2 weeks with antlers still. From a spike to a basket 8 pointer. I know they are SUPPOSED to fall of each year, but maybe some don't. Or maybe they were just late this year due to the warmer winter?
Porcupine.

neo no porcupines in WVa, that I have ever heard of, though we have plenty of squirrels, never have seen them do it in the past though.......something new to me
You may have some new neighbors moving in, Hillbille.

Pine monkeys. We have them around here, too. They will destroy a Christmas tree farm.
Like to see a picture. I think Neo was right find trees like that every spring.
Sasquatch........squaring up his member and getting into the roll of mating season.
Had about 75 head of elk come through the meadow about a week ago, two spikes still sporting their antlers.
Jimdeere, I had been considering corn monkeys but maybe you are right, it is pine monkeys. I'll be honest, I always had trouble telling the difference between the two monkeys. I remember an old man telling me the corn monkeys taste a lot better than the pine monkeys. He told me the pine monkeys always seemed to have a turpentine taste to them!
Would you know if this information is correct??
Jackalope?
Deer have hoofs year round,,,😉

I got side tracked with your post HB right from the * go. Was wondering if yer side by side was a 12 or 20 gage. 🙂
500.......... honda
Deer normally 'shed' when they change over to 'browsing' (about Jan. 1 up north). If you keep them on 'summer' rations (corn, hay) they will hold them much longer (march/april).
