Advances in communication technology always bring exponential increases in the ability to use propaganda. From Guttenberg through radio/tv and now digital, more and more people may be reached with propaganda messages. Look how far we have come from the military dropping leaflets and entities like radio free Europe. Social platforms and the media showed how powerful their propaganda can be in the 2020 election. The only viable solution is censorship, but that causes more problems than it solves and intrudes on our constitutional freedoms.
I find digital currency to be the ultimate scam. Not backed by any tangible assets or government, it is the worst fiat currency out there. Existing only in databases and vulnerable to things like hacking and emp, it doesn't fill me with confidence. Of course all national currencies have become digital to the extent that electronic banking is common on a global scale. At least for the time being national currencies still have a physical option with bills and coins but that may become a thing of the past sooner than we expect. Can a government back their currency better than someone like bitcoin? It will be determined by the confidence of the users of the currency.
It sure would be interesting to have a time machine that could show us what the future holds just 10 years in the future. Since that isn't possible, worrying about it to the point of having a phobia about what is to come is pointless. Bob
The dollar is the same as crypto currency when FDR & then Nixon banned fiat money to be backed by gold, First for The U.S. citizens and then for foreign trade. US dollar was created by the Act of Federal reserve in 1913. At the time, the US had overtaken Britain as the largest economy though Britain continued to hold its sway in the world economy and most transactions continued to be done in Pounds. US dollar was pegged to Gold as were all the major currencies of the world. The US was the major supplier of military equipment during world war and imported huge quantities of gold creating the largest reservoir on the planet. Bretton wood agreement put the seal on the US dollar as the reserve currency in 1944 when all major countries linked their currency to US Dollar while the Federal reserve re-affirmed its commitment to redeem the dollar for the value of gold.
If you read the article you posted it gives the reason for severing the link between the dollar and gold. If you recall, I have posted that currency linked to a tangible asset, ie gold, can cause the issuer of that currency to have their tangible assets depleted. If you must surrender that asset on demand and it is depleted what backs your currency? If you artificially raise the price of your tangible asset then you have runaway inflation and effectively bankrupt your economy. Currency needs to be backed by a countries assets like GDP and not a commodity that can be depleted. That is where China has boomed and we have lagged as we have let our industries either go offshore or at a minimum languish while they aggressively built up their domestic production. Bob
In the short term I think war is going to be the GDP token you speak about. The more fiat currency they create the bigger the hole gets in the sinking ship. I wonder if that's why China wants Taiwan now for it's computer chip technology? The West is no longer giving them free technology anymore. They are now looking to just take it? You think?
