I Am A Stock Holder

nunnnunn Forums Admins, Member, Moderator Posts: 36,085 ******

I now own 140 shares of Gunbroker stock, listed as POWW. I own some stock funds, but this was my first single stock purchase.

Was it a wise investment? It doesn't matter. I resolved a long time ago to buy shares in Gunbroker as soon as it went public. They've been good to me, so I will support them.

I jumped in as soon as news broke that they had a letter of intent to buy GB.

I've never fooled around in the market before. I asked my money guy how to do it and he told me to just look online for a trading site. So, I opened an account at E-Trade and transferred a grand from my bank. That was Wednesday and they made me wait until today to make a purchase.

So GB is a publicly traded stock now? Never heard anything about it.

Ammo.com bought GB a couple of weeks ago for $240 million. That's a lot of money for a PO box in Kennesaw GA. Ammo.com is listed on the NASDAQ. I don't know how their stock is structured: common shares and preferred, or Class A and Class B, each with different voting rights.

I suggest one read the very last paragraph of the press release posted on here by Mr. Wiley, those few words speak volumes......😉

I am a stock holder, as well.

I am currently holding the stock of a Rem. 700 I am cleaning.

I jumped in a few months back. Not a lot of stock (40 shares,) but some for some voting shares. About doubled in value already.

That might not be a bad investment.

Unfortunately they don't pay a dividend and they are somewhat upside down on their profits. Their range was on the high side when you bought them but they have some potential for growth. The Beta is -.57 so the systematic risk is low. Their EPS(earning per share) is in the negative(-.24) which is not too bad.

A year ago the stock was just above a dollar, that would have been a good time to get in. The market is way up right now and will probably have a big correction this summer, but it will come back.

The stock market is the biggest legal gambling game there is. I have been in it since I was 16 and I am 61 now. In 1976 I bought 100 shares of Coke and 100 shares of Marlboro stock. I had made a bunch of money that summer working and my Dad wanted me to "save" money. He wanted me to start investing. So I told him those were the stocks I wanted(I drank Coke and smoked Marlboro's and so did most of my friends). He got the stock and set it up as a dividend reinvestment. I still have it and its worth a whole lot more now than it was 45 years ago.

I love playing the market and it has been good to me. I may look at buying a few shares of POWW.

See? That's why I never bought single stocks until this purchase, and that's why my intent is to help support Gunbroker, whether it makes a nickel or not. I just don't know all the ins and outs, and there seems to be a lot to know.

There is a lot to know @nunn but one of the best tools is to see what people are buying/doing and invest in it. It doesn't work all the time but it works better than 50%. For me I like a stock that pays a dividend but some really good stocks don't like Amazon.

David I wish you well my friend, but IMHO, the political climate makes your investment risky.

  • nunnnunn Forums Admins, Member, Moderator Posts: 36,085 ******

As previously stated, that really doesn't matter. It's only a grand.

  • Sam06Sam06 Member Posts: 21,244 ✭✭✭✭

The big Tech stocks are getting hammered today again and dragging down the market. This might be the start of a correction, we are due for one with the jobs down and so much stock overvalued.

Well the stock market isn't for everyone. Took my retirement money and transferred it to a broker when I left the machine shop. Easy just let them make the money on advice. I had control where it went. So I get a statement and my money is gone. Broker invested in the chicago mercantile market and lost it all. I got it back after filing with the State. Most likely he got a slap on the hand or went to jail . Didn't matter I put the money in a mutual fund . Then it got interesting. I was one of those rookie day traders. I could trade from within the mutual stock groups .. I made a bundle ..a few hundred thousand dollars. Then one day I got a letter and a phone call from the mutual folks. They told me to knock off all of the trading ..I was doing too much. Then in 2008 the bottom fell out.. I didn't get to move my monies into the money markets and I lost about 3/4 of my profits. They had locked me out of trading my own stuff. So I just took it out and put it in a couple of banks for later use. Cashed it in, payed the taxes and started buying flip homes, repair and sell. Done well but waiting on the ones I have for sale before investing any more. As for the stock market , never investing again . Solid hard assets , gold , cars, or real estate only .

nunn your post inspired me a little so I went ahead and took a position in POWW, got in during the drop this morning and already in the green. I've been in and out of SWBI and RGR off and on for years and haven't done bad, but this is first venture into a pure ammo play.

I am TERRIBLE at figuring out this Robinhood thing. I don't know what the heck I'm doing, but I bought 50 shares of POWW just now. I'll get some more along the way if I can figure out how to put money into that app without it taking several days.

Investing in GB makes me curios. After 18 years in the forums, I've been given a free hat- which I still have. Along the way, on two occasions I was promised dinners in Las Vegas for my girlfriend and myself, neither of which materialized. I was also promised a Gun Broker jacket, which was never shipped. Despite those bold faced lies, I'm eager to use my admin salary to invested in GB stock.

I don't know about Nunn, but I haven't received a thing in recognition of my service to Gun Broker.

IIRC, I've received two caps, three shirts, some blank bound books, and some swag bags, koozies, etc. When Beth was handling promotions, she sent me a box of Omaha steaks. That was nice.

  • select-fireselect-fire Member Posts: 69,540 ✭✭✭✭

I have purchased a few t shirts off of GB thru the yrs... However the package had a ton of free stuff..coozies , hats in it. I passed most of that on when folks bought stuff off of me on the other side.

  • shootuadealshootuadeal Member Posts: 5,301 ✭✭✭✭

I got a packet of stuff from Capt. Fun one time for guessing the 3 biggest states for buyers on GB. Don't even remember what was in it other than I think a hat and a coozie.

...The only stock I ever messed with was Bali Mfg., years ago...they made & refurbished slot machines for Nevada...stock would be YTD low around Nov. then a few months later it would jump up a LOT every year...it was a great cyclical stock, might still be...not messed with any stock in years...

The one time I tried buying a stock it was some pharmaceutical company that my cousin (who made himself a wealthy man day trading) told me was a sure bet as they had developed a cure for Parkinsons. Okay!, says I and proceeded to plunk down a thousand dollars. Before I knew what was going on it was worth 28 cents. Literally, 28 stinkin' cents. I just give the funds to my money dude now and let him deal with it. He has done very well for us.

3.5 k shares... been in since December

Poww.p exists as preferred shares. Pays 8.75% divy

If you manage to get shares below 25 bucks a share you effectively get a higher divy as its based on 25 share price. Rolling in cash rn. Buy while its hot.

Capt. Kirk gave me a cap, so I am almost up with you Mark. I earned the same pay and did a damn site less.

I was testing the waters and bought some AMC stock at around $12 a share. Sold enough to refund my initial investment $ amount when it hit $19 a share. Still watching the 40 odd shares left over.

I'm not investing in AMC's longterm viability, I'm looking for it to rocket up like Game Stop where I can then sell it at a significant increase. Buy low sell high.

For those of us who bought when @nunn posted this, I bought on the 11th of May, We are up over 42%, tempting to sell but I think I'll hold a little longer.
