Any fans here? I have had two. One blued and one Starvel. Wish I had them both back now. I have a chance to buy one now........just trying to make up my mind. Without disclosing the ask.......what do you guys value one in good to excellent condition with box and paperwork?
Comments
I had one and I shot it quite a bit. Great little gun and amazingly accurate.
Ohh yes, the PD. The Star does not get the respect it deserves. Have had a lot of Stars through the years and they are imo well built firearms. Roughly, box, papers, maybe an extra mag, 375-450 area.
These days?? Who knows. Mine ran great. You will need to find some of the plastic recoil buffers and change them out as they wear.
Here is a nice one with an extra magazine.

Great gun. Especially for those with smaller hands. When I had mine we were close enough to Interarms that I could drive there. Picked up several extra buffers and a couple sets of grips. Very accurate. Wish I still had it.
Love the one I still have it's a bit beat looking, but a great piece for a shop gun. Locked and cocked..
We've always tried to carry extra parts for these when we can find them. Buffers are the tough part, some folks making 3d buffers but they don't last. long.
.
I think I have some buffers somewhere.
They were the first to make a compact light 45 Auto. Jeff Cooper wrote favorable reviews and then everybody wanted one.
I own one and yes you have to inspect and replace the buffers around every 1000 rounds or as needed. Gun is great to carry, accurate, and goes bang every time I pull the trigger.
The only thing negative is buffers or entire buffers assemblies are almost impossible to find. Be prepared to pay high for one. As far as I know no one makes them anymore.
yes.....I am well versed on the recoil buffers.
willing to look for them if I buy it?
Actually, I think that they are being made..........and not too expensive. There are also Wolf spring and recoil assemblies for them in several weights........according to me just briefly surfing the interweb.
I made an offer on it. It is a very meaningful pistol to me as I was introduced to it by my "gun mentor" back in the mid 90s. Sadly.....he is now in a home with dementia....
So.......it looks like the deal will happen. I negotiated the price down to high retail and I am going to throw in a 500 rd box of Remington Thunderduds that I got years ago on sale for 14.99 to knock $25.00 of the price.
I just need to have one of these again. As I said............meaningful to me because of my "mentor".
Good deal, enjoy.
Congrats. I can't say anything bad about the PD. When I bought mine here on GB, it had been Parkerized, or something close to it and ported. The porting tames that lightweight a lot. Over the years, I've scrounged up 5 mags for it. It's never failed to go bang but doesn't care for flat nose FMJ. Enjoy your toy!
If you have a link. please post it. Years ago you could buy just the bumpers, Then someone came out with a complete bumper spring assembly, Both worked, some would wear after 100 rounds.
Let me see if I can find it again.
Well gentlemen..........I picked up my NEW Star PD this morning before work. It was advertised as in excellent condition and it is better than that. It is the cleanest example of a Star PD that I have ever handled, and I have handled a few. The guy I got it from said that years ago one of his buddies bought an entire collection and this was in it. They did a little trading and he got this one. According to him, it has been sitting in his safe for years and he said he is just not a .45 ACP guy, he said that he never fired it.
There is not a mark on it. Nothing around the muzzle, no rubbing of the blueing on the front of the frame from excessive racking of the slide or recoil. Not a single mark. The checkering on the grips is crisp and clean with no wear on the points of the diamonds. I inspected the bore and I don't believe there has ever been a bullet through it. The plastic box doesn't even have a mark on it. All of the paperwork is there, including the original plastic bag for the pistol (neatly folded) and the little packing tag with the packers' number on it. All of the cleaning accessories are still in their plastic and obviously never used. I have not dis-assembled it to look at the buffer yet. It is so pristine that I am afraid to mess with the grip screws to look for a date code on the grip frame. I do believe that I have acquired a NIB, unfired Star PD. I am about 99% sure.
I am simply elated. It will definitely not be carried or shot. I think I bought a safe queen. 😛🤩😍😎🤗
I did pay retail for one that is in "excellent" condition, but if it really is NIB, I think I came away pretty well................
Here is one that I found. I will try to find more......and the heavier Wolf spring.
