Stolen Credit Card
FYI for sellers. Had someone try to use 2 stolen credit cards to get 3 Holosun Red Dots worth over $1,000. Luckily I checked my credit card processor and saw that the first 2 attempts were declined and the 3rd went though using a different card. When I checked the billing address vs the shipping address they were also different. I then tried to call the buyer to get a positive ID and ask why these things weren't adding up but his phone number listed through GB wasn't "taking any calls". I then went a step further and checked the decline card and saw that billing address was in FL which was on the opposite coast to where the buyer said he was from. Luckily I didn't send the red dots but it could have easily been the other way and I'd be out $1,000. Just wanted to pass this along.

Did you pass this along to Auction Support??
If you have a CC it is a matter of time before it happens or there is a unicorn with a leprechaun riding him in the Derby. Glad you caught it 2A.
I did. They said they'd credit the account for the charges and block the buyer from using their account.
Theirs a scam going around in the Boat parts world. We get an email asking for two hydraulic steering systems (about 5,000.00 retail) and can they pay with a credit card. They then want you to mail the systems somewhere. Their card will go through the machine but a few days later the card company declines and the dealer gets stuck with the non-payment.
Like Dano, Being retired I have time on my hands. I check all my accounts when I get up every day. I'm not rich but don't want to give anything away. Credit cards are more safe than debit cards I believe.
Be careful out there - our world is turning ugly and it's going to get worse when all this "free" money dries up.
😕
Imagine, people trying to scam people. Never heard of that before.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
If you do online banking, you should use a bank that uses 2 step verification, such as WF. (They call or text your phone with a code that you must enter in order to access your account.)
Crooks don't have to steal your credit card in order to hack the number. A small number of individuals who work in stores or restaurants write down your CC number when you charge something, & sell your information through the "dark web". Credit card companies are aware that they have weak encryption, but a little bit of fraud loss is cheaper than increasing security.

The one and only (so far) time that I had a problem it was a card reader on a gas pump. They sure didn't wait long to put the number to use because the credit card company called the next morning inquiring about several charges made around the country. They cancelled my card and put a new one in the mail that I got 3 days later. The folks that end up paying for this are the merchant and the folks who carry a balance on their card and have to pay exorbitant interest rates. Bob
I'm pretty sure most financial systems are offering 2 step verifications now although they are currently mostly optional and you have to opt in. My credit union pretty much forced it on us, but the others are currently your choice to use or not. If your bank etc. doesn't have it I'm sure they soon will.
Wells Fargo just closed the accounts of a Conservative Candidate leaving her penniless stranded without money.
