Gap under interior doors,,

With new carpeting in the basement the doors now drag across the carpet. Need to trim off the bottom of the doors. The heat system is radiant hot water so the return air circulation rule does not apply. So just how much of a gap should there be under the door? Asked a few builders/contractors and they give some answers of like 29/64th, 1 inch, 15/16th, 3/4 inch. Then they pull out a tape measure thing, like really??
So I come to the forum with my question. What caliber gun barrel should fit in the gap of door bottom to floor??

In your case, where you're not worried about air circulation, just enough to clear the carpet.
Why you want to shoot under the doors?
Standard Marlin 60 barrel with squirrel stock.
.625 5/8" Of course that question deserves and Invisible Promote
.250/3000
Measure from the ceiling to the floor. Subtract the carpet height plus .25" and that will give you the distance that the bottom of the door needs to be from the celilng to clear the carpet by 1/4". Be sure to vacuum the carpet before so you have the strands at max height. That is very important.
Just fart by the door............if your wife in the next room can smell it, you have enough air space.
Good God. If the door scrapes the carpet, cut it down. If it doesn't leave it alone.

Question: do you want to be able to slam the door in a huff? Take an inch off. Elsewise half that. Try to slam THAT puppy and you’ll need a nap.
Depends on your doors. If they are solid wood, you can cut as much off as you like. If they are hollow type doors, you have limits.
Thought I'd add some logic to a very illogical question! 🙂
do you have a pad under the carpeting ? is so cut out the padding in a arc that matches the door swing
9mm ... of course
Seriously aside from the humor, you will have to remove the door and cut off enough to clear the carpet at the base.
Most interior doors are hollow or filled with foam. Most every one has a solid wood base 2-3" thick so you can cut the amount you need off.
You need a good radial saw to make a straight cut with plenty of teeth, Had to do this many times and sometimes at the top if it was a new door and wanted to use existing hinges.
If your saw blade is dull you will also splinter the end cut. Learned from the School of Hard Knocks and dull tools. ☹️
^^^^ this is why God invented masking tape.
That's easy

I was gonna suggest 44 Mag is the correct size for under doors, but then again I got hardwood floors so what do I know about carpets...
I presume you have no central air-conditioning either? Just open a window right? Remenber hot air rises and cold wet air sinks.

I love this thread! You all sound like a bunch of brothers, standing around with your hands in your pockets, bickering. Gives me the warm fuzziness.
I have nothing to add. My husband buys me guns, but I'm not "allowed" to have power tools. :)
