congrats, hang on to it as long as you can, we just lost ours after more than 20 years......
That's great, I hope it turns out to be a good spot.....beware of trespassers !!
Hope you bag your limit and get what you stalk or trail or come across.
Back in 1989 Deb and I decided to buy some property for hunting and recreation. At that time in Michigan you needed 40 acres at a minimum to apply for antlerless permits. The getting price around here was $300.00 per acre (remember - 1989). We found a forty for $200 per acre and bought it. One of our best decisions.
firstharmonic, what county are you in? I have hunted in Livingston, Jackson, Hillsdale, Gladwin, Roscommon (17 years), W. Mackinac (23 years). I stopped deer hunting two seasons ago. I won't tell anyone your location, trust me!!
Exact reason it is more financial to lease instead of purchase.
Not sure how you figure that, an $8,000 outlay for 40 acres. Hell people paid more than that for used cars back in 89. Set up right he could re-coup his money on tax incentives @ ie. "improvements", government programs and tax right-offs. The age of the buyer has a lot to do with the purchase too. I commend his purchase.......very smart.

Have you priced hunting land lately. Cheaper to lease than purchase .
