When you enter a convenience store...

jimdeerejimdeere Member, Moderator Posts: 26,277 ******

...do you check out the occupants? I actually check out the cars as I am getting out of mine. Say there’s a shady character sitting in a car waiting. Is his buddy up to no good? First, check out who’s at the beer cooler. Then, the person behind the counter. Does he look nervous?

I plan ahead so I never have to go to a convenience store.

YES. I usually look through the windows/door before entering. The place where I buy gas frequently has a magazine rack right next to the men's room door. If someone is standing at that rack, I make solid eye contact. If that person looks away quickly, I walk past the door and turn back so I can see the rack while opening the door.

Once when I walked in the clerk was sort of wide eyed and appeared scared. The customer at the counter was ranting about something to the point of not noticing me until I loudly asked the clerk if I needed to call the police. That ended the confrontation but I didn't leave the store until the guy drove away. Got a free cup of coffee out of the deal.

Last December in Alamosa CO we stopped for gas and coffee @ 4AM. I went in first while the driver filled the tank and while I was filling my cup a suspicious looking "Dude" walked in with his face covered and hands in pockets. I just stayed close to the coffee machine and waited for my buddy to come in. When he did, that was too much and the "Dude" scooted. Store clerk seemed relieved and commented that our arrival had been timed perfectly. Got free coffee out of that one, too.

First thing I look for is the clerk. If I can't SEE the clerk.... where the hell ARE they? Getting tied up in the cooler, or mugged in the office?

I can't remember the last time I was actually in a convenience store. Keep in mind here in Michigan we give them all the generic name - Stop-N-Rob. Bob

What gets me is that they block up the windows wilth signs & product racks. They don't realize that the better the view is into the store, the safer they are. At least leave the middle clear so people in their cars (including the PoPo) can see in.

I always pay at the pump for gas and never go inside any of the stores.

I always check to see if there is an English speaking person at the counter.

Just know that standing there are carefully scanning the occupants is exactly what a robber does, too. Now YOU are the suspicious one.

    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Our convenience store is also our largest gun shop. Multiple people packing.

I don't even care anymore. If they shoot me they'd be doing me a favor. All I ask for is a clean headshot with a .44 mag or larger caliber.

Smitty, you are here for a reason.

Pay at the pump and I choose big gas places like QT and racetrack. The small ones are just infested with panhandlers and hustlers

Although always described as a cowboy, Roswellnative generally acts as a righter of wrongs or bodyguard of some sort, where he excels thanks to his resourcefulness and incredible gun prowesses.

In a C-store in New Orleans, a very drunk young man was at the counter ahead of me, trying to buy a pack of cigarettes with a pile of change, and he was about 20 cents short. The clerk apparently didn't recognize what lay before him on the counter, but I did. It was all pre-1964 silver coins, quarters, and a few nickels. I told the clerk to add his purchase to mine, and I raked the silver off the counter and pocketed it. I bought his smokes and mine, and profited on the deal. All three of us were happy, so it must have been a good deal.

In a C-store in or near Houston, I found the clerk locked behind the counter with all the high-dollar theft targets. He was also behind 2 inches of Lexan, with only a small trough at the bottom to accept money and pass out smokes, candy, etc. I asked him, "Are you scared?"

He replied, "Nope, because I'm in HERE!"

C-stores around here are pretty tame, and we don't go into them often, but when we do, it's apt to be a QuikTrip or a Buc-ee's. Huge, well-lit, with clean restrooms, and well-populated by clerks and customers alike. Besides, Buc-ee's has real gasoline!
