Not wanting to hijack the shotgun thread, I must say that your model 37 collection is very nice, and you should be proud of it. I do have to admit though, you are one of the few people that can actually get the number of long guns in a safe that the safe people say they will hold...Well done Sir!😉

He's msut be the reason the 37's sell so high. I wondered what drove the prices up on those things. Horder!
I just winder how many of the 28 gauger's he has in his harem???
I hope he has a bunch, 28ga is the premium.
Toad67, Six of them of which five I am 100% certain are original real deals. One I received about four days ago is a "FAKE". Thank goodness i did not pay a small fortune for it. Be careful out their guys, If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is.---------------------Ray
On the "Fake 28Ga." that I received about four days ago i will create a separate Topic on measurements and all particulars when I can fit it in. Perhaps it will help some of you folks. The seller has sold 15 Guns over the course of five years or so and has excellent feedback. He sold another 28Ga just before me and got a good feed back on it. So far he has not responded to my e-mails. I do not wish to file with support or give him a "F" without a chance to make amends. The most glaring features are 28 in Roll Die lettering too large and too deep. Chamber lettering 2-3/4 instead of 2-7/8. And of course it is really a older20ga barrel marked "FULL" instead of "CHOKE"
. My guess is that buyers are ashamed that they got taken or simply don't know when they have been taken. If you want Flame Away, my skin is pretty thick after all these 78 years. Will have more to say later.
I have always wanted to write a book on the 37 Winchester and just may keep it for taking pictures of a "Fake".---------------------------------------Ray
Yep, the cat is out of the bag. 😀 Believe it or not I ran out of room years ago and just stack them in two piles in gun socks.(not shown) I guess I have restored about 40% of them. I do it all except dipping in the tanks. Thousands of hours in labor involved. In my other life I was a machinist for a while.------------------------------------Ray
PS: On second thought probably not the reason, I think Bob is right, it is a sickness.
Thank you. Actually, i think I am a couple short of stated capacity. It's a Winchester, not to shabby but they won't stand behind their locks. Tractor Supply version. I was locked out for two months and found the right guy who really knew his stuff. A lot of old stuff still being sold out there and on Fleabay. Part of problem is if you use repetitive number in code with older locks (circuit board) you are asking for trouble.
"Fake" 28Ga. Addendum: Instead of starting a new topic I will add the following here.
Five 28Ga. All are original no re-blue. Four are 28" barrel, one is 30" barrel. Four are Red Ltr. 1st year pigtail break lever. One is a Red Ltr. 2nd generation bumblebee hammer (cocking lever) They are all marked "FULL" as opposed to "CHOKE" to far right, both meaning full choke. At the muzzle they measure .650 on the OD. On the ID (choked bore) they measure from .515 to .525. The wall thickness at the muzzle measures .060 on these.
Fake 28Ga.---------------- Stocks are late model cheap original cut straight with straight line Winchester butt plate as opposed to earlier butt stock cut with curve and round Winchester Logo butt plate. I would go to original old growth walnut. This is a non-issue for me as the barrel is everything. Receiver is a Red Ltr. with bumble bee 2nd generation hammer (cocking lever). As mentioned before the 28 in the roll die line is deeper and slightly larger than rest of roll die line. Positioning is great. Chamber lettering is 2-3/4" instead of correct 2-7/8". The fore end stock post is stamped 28 which is a little of a surprise to me. The extractor is stamped 28. No surprise there. At the muzzle, the OD is .735 and the ID is .550. The wall thickness at the muzzle is .090. Getting the picture now. The original non-fakes are .060. Wall thickness much greater on Fake.
I checked five original 20Ga non re-blued barrels. The wall thickness at muzzle is .070. The OD's and ID's on these at the muzzle are pretty consistent with fake. On the fake, is there a sleeve in the chamber? Was the barrel made from scratch? Any comments greatly appreciated.---------------------------------------Ray
What if Bert, Only Winchesters, Madis and all the other Experts are mistaken? I know, I know, no provenance, no documentation that's why I am calling my last 28Ga a "Fake". Kind of like being on Jury Duty and "Reasonable Doubt" but it crossed my mind, what if this "FAKE" 28Ga barrel was not made by a crook or the chamber does not have a sleeve in it? What if when Winchester did a parts clean up in late 40's and early 50's on the 28Ga Model 37, the good old boys in New Haven whipped up some barrels to get rid of those Red Ltr. receivers. Never say Never with Winchester! ----------Ray
In my humble opinion the 20Ga. with the 32" barrel is more rare (at least harder to come by) than the 28Ga. with 28" barrel. Tough to pin down because the 28Gauges stay in the family until someone dies and they are passed on. Of course the 28Ga. with 30" barrel stands alone. It is the Holy Grail of 37 Winchesters. I almost had to take out a loan to get one that Winchester Dave sold me quite a few years back. It listed for $8.45 in Stoeger's 1940 catalog on page 78. I had heard $19 for 1936 listing but the 1940 price is documented. Sorry, I don't have the 1936 Edition.---------------------------------Ray
Update on "Fake28Ga.-----------No response to multiple e-mails to seller. No choice but to leave a negative "F". Have not done this in many, many years. Will use firearm as Fake Example if I ever write a book on 37 Win. Will partially restore and it will become a shooter instead of a collector.-----------------------------Ray
