Sweet! I bet you’ll find the action is slick as a ribbon. I have several Remington model 17’s of that era and they all are fun to shoot.
If only that ol' girl could talk
The mod12 is arguably the finest pump action shotgun ever produced. It was made at a time when skilled craftsmen assembled and tuned every gun. Its reign ran all the way until cheaper massed produced guns like the 870 killed it off because economically the mod12 couldn't compete. There are mod12s out there that trap shooters have fired hundreds of thousands of rounds through and they just keep on ticking. Congrats on buying a great gun. Bob
It's probably a 2 9/16 chambered gun. I had to find a new FFL to receive it. It's been awhile since I bought anything online and the guy who handled these for me moved to Tennessee to retire.
I've had a few model 12's through the years. Somebody always comes along and offers considerable more than I have in them and they find a new home. I'm going to hang onto this one, well, that's the plan anyway.
If you don't already load 16 or short 16 Ballistic Products has some really good load recipes for the 2 1/2" 16.
YMMV, but I found their Z16 wad to be the cat's meow. Gives a lot of reach for the 1 oz load that's brutal on early to mid season roosters. They also have low pressure load recipes for older guns that are good for reduced recoil in any gun.
Model 12's are nice. Have not checked in a while but Kent had 2.5" shells in their Game Bore line. I bought some 12 gauge for a 2 5/8" chamber in a Parker double I have.

I have a case of 2 1/2: #6's I bought from RST for a sxs with short chambers. I'll try those first to see how she runs.
Very nice ,
