taxes/fees

When looking at my invoice there is a tax/fee for $42.79. I called the gun shop that was bought through and they said that this is a new fee added on by Gun Broker. I have to ask what this tax/fee is for?
I am also wondering how I figure this on any future purchases so I know what I will be charged before bidding on any other guns on your site.
I have bought a few guns off of your site in the past and have never been charged this before so I was a little shocked when I saw this.
Thank you for your answer on this

Sales tax and 1% is what you are looking at. The GB website is a marketplace facilitator now....and they are obligated to collect sales tax for nearly all the sates. The number of states grows, but is currently at 44 states, I believe.
The 1% is to offset the manpower that GB has had to add to deal with this issue. I can only imagine the nightmare of writing a software program that deals with this nonsense.
LF, I thought the 1% was a compliance fee to deal with all the state Rules and Regulations imposed by states and not tax related manpower?------------------------------Ray
Heck, just call it a "Surcharge"...that's what everybody else calls those crazy undescribed charges......🙄

death and taxes always catch up to you
I've bought two shotguns on GB in the last couple of weeks. Taxes (7%), credit cards fees (4%) and GB compliance fee (1%) come to 12% then shipping and receiving is adding some serious cash above purchase price for $400 shotguns.
One closed at $330 and the total for me is $429.79 including the $20 receiving FFL fee
The other closed at $405 and the total for me is $522.88 including the $20 receiving FFL fee
Thanks for your input above. When I talked with the seller they said that this is something that is charged by Gun Broker. My closing bid was at $490 and then I received a charge for $42.79 for taxes/fees. That is 8.5% to 9% of the purchase price. It has been a couple of years since I had bought anything off of Gun Broker so I was a little shocked at this. The gun I bought was in PA while I am in KS so typically they would not have charged me any state tax. I guess I need to dig into this a little further
Thanks again for your comments.
I just looked, and Kansas has a sales tax rate of 6.5%-10.6%, so yes you will be charged sales tax now.
Good times are gone .
I have no clue what the 1% is actually being used for, what GB does with their money is a mystery to me. BUT If you say this is a compliance fee to deal with the regulations, what else would that mean other than paying for staff to deal with the sales tax.
i sit here smiling as Montana has no sales tax
Go to a live auction and see what the final price is. Some auctioneers charge up to 18% buyers fee and they get up to 10% from the seller.
i honestly dont understand how you can have sales tax on used stuff. if you carry that to its logical conclusion it doesnt take long before you pay more tax on an item than its worth.
If you go to a second hand store, you will pay tax on your purchase..........
Are they charging for the "from state" and the "to" state, or just the "from" state?
the home state of the buyer
Isn't this one of the reasons "bit coin" was instigated, to avoid taxes ? How does the bit coin come into play tax wise if paying with it ?

Bitcoin is just a way to pay if the seller would accept it, very very few do though. It would not negate the tax nor would any method of payment.
Actually they now require you to select an FFL after the auction so that the tax paid is based on that location.
