New guidelines for deer hunters? I am sure some can find a cartoon with a dressed up Hunter with his new gear this fall.

Deer can be infected with COVID-19 virus?
A U.S. Department of Agriculture study conducted around the same time showed about a third of the hundreds of deer sampled between January 2020 and March 2021 in Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan and Illinois possessed SARS-CoV-2 antibodies.
What made the Ohio deer results unique was that the active SARS-CoV-2 virus was discovered, not merely antibodies, and the virus was found in about 35 percent of the animals. Those tests, of course, offer a snapshot of the Buckeye State deer landscape months ago, not a guidebook for what lies ahead.

You made a good point, but The Government does not want to tell you the truth.Go ask Fauci for advice, I am sure he and Biden have a plan!. Like a vaccine every year, with the flu shot! If it mutates slower, then maybe every two years.

Doesn't surprise me that another mammal can contract the virus, after all there have been instances of house pets testing positive since this began. A little puzzling how a wild animal not in close contact with humans could catch it in the first place but I suppose their have been enough infected people outdoors to leave the virus behind where it can get picked up. Not very worried about contracting it from a deer as I don't save the lungs or any part of the respiratory system.
And yes, we probably will have vaccines for the different variants yearly like we do the flu. That doesn't worry me much either as I already get a flu shot. As long as it is voluntary like the flu shot then I'll have no complaints.
If I am correct, LS&D's "herd immunity" comment was a humorous play on words since you were talking about deer.😉 Bob
COVID can and often does infect other areas of the body besides the lungs. In some cases it is in the blood, it has also been found other tissues such as kidney and liver tissue. If an animal has an active infection most likely you will be able to tell before you would shoot it. As with any animal at any time if in doubt don't butcher and consume it.
…unless you wear a mask.
Sounds like fake news to me……..kind of like the stories about ivermectin overdoses clogging the hospitals.
According to the article deer do not show symptoms of the disease. What I mentioned earlier is true in humans but perhaps not it deer, Maybe we can protect from it by wearing gloves.
Interesting, if it's in Ohio it about has to be here in Indiana. I'll research and see if the DNR has put out any information on it.
If wild deer have it other species have to have it as well. Curious stuff. This stuff is with us forever.
Got the IDNR letter last week and NO mention of such. Fauchi will want deer hunting to end immediately cause it could kill the deer.
Well I guess this fall, I will have to ask the deer for proof of inoculation before I shoot them….
I'll maintain at least 6' distance when interacting with live deer and wear gloves during any direct contact.
I saw a deer lying dead beside the road. I guess it died of covid 19.
That's to complicated, just shoot the ones wearing masks! Bob
I can't find any mention of it on the IDNR website.
they found active disease in some of the Ohio deer tested.
"I saw a deer lying dead beside the road. I guess it died of covid 19."
Hey, that's how they ran up the count at the beginning of the covid catastrophy.
I wonder if they checked the deer for STDs as well?
Since it is in the deer population it is in other critters as well including our domestic stock. There is no where to hide from this stuff even if you are inclined to do so. Your liable to catch it eating a rare steak for all we know.
Highly unlikely that transmission would occur through eating the flesh since it's airborne/sputum vector spread.
Those folks who kiss their dog may be at risk.
Those SOB s are never wearing the magical masks that keep us safe!
Here's the real problem with it being in deer: "Thus, the possibility exists for the emergence of new animal reservoirs of SARS-CoV-2, each with unique potential to maintain, disseminate, and drive novel evolution of this virus."
Basically, what that means in a nutshell is this virus ain't going away. Ever. Source for quote:
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
So are we supposed to wear a mask while deer hunting?
While the chance of catching it by eating a steak is at best very minimal considering meat aging, freezing, etc. Thinking it doesn't infect other areas of the body is flawed. Autopsies have shown some people had COVID in organs and some had it in their blood. So infection beyond the respiratory track does happen though primarily it is contained there. Keep in mind that these were autopsies I was reading about so these people were sick enough to die. I haven't read where blood cultures doen on a living patient have grown COVID-19 but then I haven't specifically researched it either.
That;s what I was talking about. If it is that far spread we're never going to get rid of it, we'll have to live with it.
Read the hunting reg's.
Ignorance of the law is no excuse. (this statement was apparently written to assist the law enforcement officer in coming up with an excuse to arrest you.
Yep, the dog licks his axs and other places then people let the dog lick them in the mouth. (and they make videos of such)
No wonder the dog gets worms and covid. It's getting such from their dog lover.
We also are experiencing the results of how these these type people cast their votes.
They are coming out with a booster shot with both the flu strains with the cov strains all at one time already, so you will live with it until it either kills you or they can find a one time shot for both of these viruses to stop these from propagating in their host permanently.

So if deer are infected, what about cattle, pigs & chicken, etc.? Is anyone testing all our live food sources? We are all destined to become vegans and be over run by herds and flocks of animals (which we can't kill because they took away our weapons/firearms)......Oh My !!
But you'll be able to go to a petting zoo safely;
😁 Bob
Might go scouting Monday and vaccinate one with the 300 Mag.
Oh Boy! I just gotta go and get my eyes checked!!!! I read the post headline and saw that Beer can be infected with Covid! 😐️
Good thing I read a few posts before I started dumping my reserve stash!
You may want to rinse the tops off before drinking cans drinks if they come in plastic rings there guy.Of course, I doubt they do anymore.
