My neighbor's son's truck was stolen right out of his driveway.....

My neighbor's son lives about 5 miles from our place and on Saturday someone drove up and left an UTV and took off with his Ford pick up and trailer. Luckily he had unloaded his own UTV and had parked it elsewhere...
With the shortage of new and used trucks, I fear this will be happening more often in the future

I would track the owner of the UTV. Why wouldn’t a thief trailer his UTV rather than leave it?

Likely a stolen UTV.....I think they were just wanting to get in and out.. Klay lives in a fairly secluded spot. The local Sherriff's Department is looking into it...
Exactly why I lock my truck EVERY time I park it, even in my driveway. I lock it while fueling up, stepping into a conv. store for a soda, even if I can see it the whole time. Just takes a few seconds for a thief to strike. A friend had his brand new pickup stolen at a gas station when he went in to pay, leaving the key in it, the truck had about 500 miles on it, never to be seen again.
BTW--I have cameras too.
Yes....I lived in Illinois for too many years. If it has a lock on my place, it is locked. One of the nice things about living down here is the low crime rate. St. Louis and KC are horrible but here in the sticks, not so much...
According to Klay's Facebook page they found the truck but not the trailer
Almost sounds like someone on the run versus a theft of opportunity. Hope nothing bad happened in your area besides the vehicle thefts.
Was the key in the truck? I would think it would be difficult to start a modern vehicle without a key.
I assume so……a lot of folks around here do that and never lock a door to their houses….
It didn’t have a Glock sticker on the back window, did it?
Seriously, I was told a while back that the early Powerstroke Fords were a thief magnet because they want the engine.
It isn't widely known except to criminals, but if you have one of those key fobs, thieves can copy the code, duplicate it and be off with your vehicle. Your car actually transmits the code constantly. The fob is only the receiver. Search YouTube for it and you'll be shocked.
When my locked 1999 F-350 Ford was stolen out of my hay stack yard by the house, one of my first calls was to a friend with more than 25 years in the repo business and he told me that “ a person with right knowledge and tools could get in it and be driving down the road in under 2 minutes “
Mule
Insurance... if they steal it .
I run out and chain my 1999 F-350 to a tree.
One of the guys I work with had a Super Duty diesel, all locked up tight, stolen from his driveway.Police never had a trace of who got it or where it went. From what I understand there is a big demand for Ford Super Duty pick ups in certain parts of the country.I dont know this but I thought maybe whoever is stealing them may have titles for wrecked or destroyed trucks, stealing in one part of the country and using those titles to register the stolen trucks in another part of the country.
Many if not most stolen vehicles go immediately to a chop shop, or are rolled into a shipping container and across oceans.
I can leave the key in my '63 Land Rover with the 4 speed and push button start, leave the transfer case in neutral, and nobody younger than 40 will ever get it to move.
A hidden master switch that cuts power to the starter works wonders! I wired one on my Harley and it will baffle any prospective thief even if I leave the key in it. It cuts power to everything electrical. It also stops the current drain on the battery with all the electronic crap that is hardwired into the system like the “theft protection”.
Thief thinks the battery is dead and will give up quickly and vacate the premises rather than trying to figger out what is wrong.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
A standard transmission is one of the best anti theft devices in the modern world. 😀
And a cold blooded engine with a manual choke.
In our area the thieves have gotten wreckers that repo men use and they back up to a vehicle and never get out and under 30 seconds they have either the front or the rear off the ground and are going down the street. They use some kind of dolley under the rear wheels when picking up the front on a rear wheel drive. The high price of trucks in our area a lot are stolen.
Son-in-law who is a Toyota finance manager sent me a message asking if I wanted to trade my truck for 2015 Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab diesel burner with only 34k miles on it. Said they would get about 60k for it. Probably had people lined up to buy it.
Trucks are gold at the moment.
A teacher I taught with had the keys to her BMW stolen out of her purse and three girls stole her car. Headed for Louisville (40 miles away) but first filled it up and drove off (it's been a while --before prepay) and then drove it to Louisville flat out in first gear all the way.
It got there but engine was toast and girls were caught.
