I also posted this in the Black Powder forum. Seems our only American made source for BP is no more. Very sad day for smoke pole enthusiasts'. 😥

With all of the black powder substitutes on the market, the majority made by Hodgdon, they probably made their BP production unprofitable. I would assume the substitutes are a lot safer to manufacture also. Bob
The substitutes do not work in flintlock rifles or fowlers. Black powder just like back in the days of our forefathers.
I know but the cost of manufacturing plus insurance to fill what has become a much smaller traditional BP market was probably the reason for closing the plant. If it was generating a profit I believe that they wouldn't close it. It sucks, but that is capitalism. Bob
Another loss
I have been looking for Goex black powder to make some loads for my Springfield Trapdoor.
Unobtainable locally. I like the bp substitutes for hunting, but the original is nostalgic.
Plus, the pleasing aroma is half the point.
Government makes it near impossible or very costly to manufacture anything in the USA and its not just powder.
