Greetings gents, I flew in to Kotzebue today to surprise my son for his birthday. It’s darn cold out and really good to see him.

Did you get him flannel undies for his birthday?
How cold is it?
Always wanted the opportunity to hunt the upper Noatak or Kobuk.
Enjoy the visit, I am sure it will be a bright spot in the darkness.
Mule
good for you to visit with your son .
so you going to do a great north reality show like "Alaska the last frontier "
Let me know if your atoms stop vibrating.
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
Made it back home! What a great visit. Boy did that weekend go by fast! The ever patient Ms. Nanuq asked him kind of sneakily what kind of food he'd get if he could get anything he wanted? He said Subs from Pizza Plaza and bacon burgers from Arctic Roadrunner. So I bought a dozen and filled my backpack. He'll feast for a week.... I think he was more excited to see them than me.
We went to the fire hall and he showed me all around, I got to meet the crew and we had burgers together, then he demonstrated his proficiency for getting into his full gear in one minute, air tank included. Wow. I needed a nap after watching that.
Running around on Snow Gos the wind chill was intense, -12F and 40mph wind. Maybe my cheeks will thaw out this week.
I didn't quite reach 0 Kelvin, but it felt like it. Especially at night. Those "houses" are pretty much just plywood stood up and nailed together. One lady was complaining about paying $1,000/month to heat her little cabin and we looked at it, someone in the past built a cunnysuk on the front (arctic entry) and it's settled over time and pulled away, so there's a 4" gap between it and the living area. You can see the sky through the opening. She could jam old clothes and blankets into the gap and solve 95% of her problem but she just said "nahhhhh".
