Thinking about building a 7mm-08 upper. Found a source for a barrel. Wondering why no one can find uppers and this caliber is not popular in an AR. There are plenty of good bullets for reloading and the 7-08 is a great cart: Thoughts,

6 mm seems to be the thing, now. I’d like to build a .243 ar because I have lots of brass and bullets. I would have to be on the AR 10 platform, I believe.
I'm a big fan of the 7mm-08 PSA at one-time offered them until the 6.5 Creedmoor came about. I would also like to see 338 Federal uppers made available again
Just assembled a 350 Legend, on an AR platform, anxious to try it out.
i picked up a 350 legend upper a little while ago, to couple with the lower i assembled myself. took a good bit to find ammo, and then it was a 2 box limit. haven't shot as yet. was going to get a 6.5 CM ar-10 but son decided to buy the 6.5 in a Savage bolt action. i would love to find a 7mm-08 upper with the grandson in mind for it.
Ended up with a DPMS 338 Fed in a trade. Very finicky about what bullets it likes. Shoots just as good as the 308s at 200yds, but best with the Sierra 225 BTs and Fed Fusion 200gr BT, Does not like anything else. These heavy bullets and a well placed shot should take out the largest of beasts .
Reloading is the only way to go with the legend. Another one you cant find ammo for. Getting superior results with HDY 170s if you can find them and Lil Gun powder.
The AR 10 6.5s are especially fun. Went with a 1/8 twist and a heavy barrel, a real tack driver.
Unless you happen to have a great stockpile of ammo, the 7mm08 is dead in the water. I have 3x 7mm08 bolt actions along with a moderate amount of ammo and lots of bullets but I'm certainly not looking for an AR 10 in 7mm08 when I can buy a 6.5Cr AR upper over the counter (don't expect to build much of a stock pile of ammo for THAT anytime soon).
I can't even remember when I last shot one of the 7mm08 rifles even though one is a super handy little 20" carbine and another is a very accurate match grade rifle. I'm literally in love with the 6.5Cr at present. It would be going elk hunting this week if I could have sourced some proper ammo. The thing is like a cruise missile--just tell it where to go and send it.
Reloading is your friend. Brass is made from 308 with one pass thru a 7mm08 size die. 7mm bullets are common in this period of shortages. Agree on the CM, they are fun.
