BIO shotgun shells - my review
I recently purchased a case (250) of this BIO shotgun 12 gauge for shooting skeet. I am not happy with the results at all! While I DO like the idea of plant-based wads that will turn into fertilizer in the field, I am not seeing a good enough reason to create the entire shell in this manner.
First off, it's really expensive but that's not the reason for my complaint as I knew the price before I purchased, but it ran nearly $20 per BOX after taxes.
What I experienced has been deduced to problems caused by the ammo itself: JAMMING in the chamber after being fired. The shell apparently is more sensitive to heat and expands a LOT, getting stuck in the chamber once fired. I had this happen in my Benelli SBE3 and my Browning BPS.
The Benelli SBE3 had a couple of rounds get stuck - stove-pipe on ejection. That was really weird. But the Browning pump experienced increasing difficulty ejecting the spent round the hotter the gun got. It got so bad that I experienced several shots that required TWO hands pulling on the forearm to get the shell to eject. Half way thru the second round I stopped using the pump gun and took it to my gun guy who spent 3 days with it and couldn't find anything wrong with the gun at all. It fired plastic rounds just fine, but this bio ammo gets stuck.
Just and FYI ...

Thanks for the info and review.....My SBE3 thanks you !!!
Thanks for sharing your review. I understand the reason for biodegradable wads but why not just go back to paper hulls? Federal still makes a paper hull in their Gold Medal target line but I guess that wouldn't be the latest and greatest for today's new shooters. Sounds like BIO would be farther ahead to combine those hulls with their bio wad. Bob
Remington is going to start making paper shells again, called Peters Premier Blue.
I wonder if I could 3D print hulls or wads.
Clever Mirage ,,,,,,, if it’s good enough for Olympic shooters, it’s good’nuff for me.

It certainly can be done.

I know several skeet shooters using 1100’s with no problems.
Mohawk600 .... the shells are 100% biodegradable .. or so they say. Made from plant based stuff. In case you want to see their ad:

Thanks for the review. I won’t tolerate poor ammo performance…even if it’s just a round of skeet.
I guess that pretty much limits their use for reloading also..........
Well I guess you probably shouldn't wash them first.😀 Bob
Since I'm still working on my 40,000 rounds of AA hulls, I guessing I will not need any new shotgun ammo for a while. I did switch from AA hulls on the 28 ga to Remington hulls. They seemed to reload a little better.
