But some are simply far more dangerous than others. There is no argument about it.
Tell me again how it's their training. π
Some will die in hot pursuit
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain

So sad....
just horrible
Even a sedate Lab will bite under the right circumstances, you never trust a dog to be predictable especially if you are not familiar with it.
The PB's I wouldn't trust as far as I can throw a Steinway, never have kids around one or turn your back on it if it is not your own dog. There are good ones sure, but why take the chance ?
Whomever let that poor child around a mama PB and its puppies is a flaming imbecile and should be charged.
Common sense wasn't in play.
Working in the ER I've seen quite a few children with dog bites. Some situations aggravated me, some caused anger. Of course some times stuff happens, a dog is a dog and they all have teeth. I've heard about every excuse you can think of about how it was the child's fault "I told them not to............." I've also seen a lot of parents that were realistic about the situation. Denial is seen to often though.
I've had dogs for over 5 decades. I shake my head in wonder at the ignorance I often hear from people. I do not claim to be a "dog whisperer" and know everything. What I do know is dogs are a pack animal and that rules all relationships between dogs and people. Some dogs fit into a family pack, some do not. Knowing where the dog considers it's place in the pack and where it thinks the children fit is important to the children's safety. I've had dogs that considered the children above them in the pack and some that understood I considered the children above them and kept their place. Ones that didn't do this got gone.
Luckily most dogs want to be accepted and get along.
There are definitely dogs that are more aggressive by nature and by training than a pit ever could be. I think the chihuahua is definitely in that category, but it's ripping the arm off of exactly no one.

Cats wont kill you, they will just make you wish you were dead!! π
The wife and I were in a home improvement store a few days ago and a guy had a huge pitbull on a lead.My wife did not want to go down the same isle that the dog was on.I noticed when the guy walked, the dog walked beside him, when the guy stopped the dog sat very still beside him.I struck up a conversation with the dog owner and it turned out to be a very well trained, well behaved dog.By the time we left the store the wife was playing with the dog.Even all that said I would never let my grandchildren anywhere near that dog.We used pit bulls years ago for hog catch dogs. The dogs we used were * cats around us but I also witnessed what they are capable of when the clamped down on a hog.
House cats kill by infection. I've taken care of several patients in the ICU with sepsis from cat bite and treat many bites in the ER. If bitten by a cat take it seriously.
I will guarantee you that if a house cat was large enough it would kill its owner. They are natural predators and sneaky as hell. There is no telling how many times an outside cat kills in a day. Anything smaller than itself that it can get to.
Not to mention how many diseases are spread by feral cats, and tame cats that are allowed to roam.
They spread all sorts of nasties from one farm to another.
I tell people "if it was big enough it would eat you." I also tell them that about wild turkeys and a few other critters.
Coyotes take care of outside cats
There are only 2 dogs that cannot bite- hot dogs, and dogs with no teeth.
When our youngest daughter was 9, she was playing in the yard. A dog running at large attacked her, put her in the hospital for 4 days. Bit her thru both forearms, breaking the right arm. One bite thru left eyelid, 10 stitches down the center of the scalp. Witnessed, unprovoked. I'm convinced the dog would have killed her except for her 11 yr old brother.
That was a 2 yr old Golden Retriever.
Scout5 you are right. I had a pet cat and was quite fond of the little guy. One day he got into a scrap with my dog and he got scared and hid under the bed. I reached under the bed to pick up the guy, to comfort him. He bit me right on the knuckle of the right hand.
Three days later I noticed red streaks running from the knuckle, down towards the fingernail and up towards the wrist. I went up to see the doc. He gave me a big bottle of antibiotics and he said I had a terrible infection. He said if I had come in two days later I would have been looking at amputation of the hand.
Doc said the third worst bite was dog, second worst was human, and the worst bite was cat. Some really nasty bacteria in the mouth of the cat.
Best dogs Iβve ever owned. Invariably when weβre out hiking weβll come across someone, mine will come sit quietly at my feet, and people are literally astounded at how good they are.
They always admire them, with their big goofy smiles, then ask if they can scratch them? I say yes, let them smell the back of your hand first. Then they sit and enjoy the attention. I tell people Iβve raised them to be good ambassadors of the breed, and they are. Absolutely spectacular dogs. But they are highly, HIGHLY trained.
One of our cats looks at me like he's thinking "if only I were bigger I'd kill your sorry a**."
Dogs react and respond exactly in step with how they are treated. Exactly as people do.
I disagree. Most are like you say, but not all. Certainly treatment matters in humans and animals. However animals, like people, can have different mindsets, attitudes, and thought processes. Some people are simply different. Some are mean, brutal even, some are serial killers, some react disproportionately to situations and it goes on. Dogs are no different. I've had pups from the same litter turn out different even though they were treated the same.
I would say i am in agreement with the post here but I think Willie (after Willie Nelson) is the exception. He has only growled one time when he was around one year old and my wife tried to take his bone away. Look at that nice steak bone in picture. Even I would growl if you took it away from me.
Second picture of Willie today. Not a growl since nine years ago. He spends his leisure time parked on my work bench supervising
work on my 37 Winchesters. Next to my bride of 57 years, he is my best friend in the whole world since I lost my hunting partner Gerhard in February,----------------------------------Ray
Is Willie a Rat Terrier? I have an old Rat Terrier/Chihuahua thats one of my best buddies.
Willie is a Toy Terrier.------------------Ray
I swear the cats in my house aren't trying to lick me because they enjoy my company. I believe they are checking to see if I'm seasoned and done enough to eat.
I have witnessed cats playing with live things before they kill them. Live things that were no threat to the cat. They enjoy the cruelty they inflict long before the kill. If they view you as a peer they will offer you the fresh kill. I have received such offerings in the past.
That or they believed I needed to be fattened. π
My dog Cash doesnβt know how to bark or growl. The closest he gets is sort of a humm sound. Hmmm. Hmmm. I suppose he could technically bite but if a dog could be a vegan, I think he would go that route.
Susie, I think it is time for you to be thinking about sleeping with one eye open.π-------Ray
Allowing a child near any dog and her puppies is akin to allowing Alec Baldwin near a handgun !
Stupid is as Stupid does.
The child's caregiver deserves 100% of any blame ... whats next a nitro glycerin teething ring ?!
