Lately I have began to hanker for a good sxs double. Simpson shows a wide array of them from Merkel to Aya and everything in between . Anyone ever bought from them ? Especially your thoughts on the Merkel and Aya guns .

I lean towards Browning, but all of them are O/U,

I think this is where gun shows come in handy, you can walk the aisles and handle all the different brands, nothing beats a hands on feeling, when it comes to buying guns........
Never bought from them but I have shot a few SxS. The Merkel shot fine but I didn't care for its german/European styling. I've shot a couple of AYA SxS and they handled well and were more of a traditional style, which I preferred. I only own one SxS at the moment and it is a Berreta 20ga and it is a dandy. Winchester used to make the mod21 and it seems to be the holy grail for some shooters. I find them o.k. but a bit heavy and they don't swing as well for me. The Winchester 23, on the other hand fits me well and is a lively easy to swing gun. If I were to buy another SxS I would be looking for a 23 with winchokes in 20ga. Bob
Hard to find these brands at a gunshow . I agree on the browning comment . If I had the funds I would be looking a Citori or a real good condition Ithaca or maybe Fox . For the prices shown i am willing to take a leap of faith sometime in the next few months
I do not now what you may be interested in. F.A.I.R. makes a new sxs that retails reasonable, made in Italy IIRC.
Someone was reproducing the Winchester guns IIRC. SKB is a good gun for the money also.
I think it was in the 1970's when I bought my first Ithaca model 100 made by SKB. It's a 20 ga., IC & M. I was a dedicated pheasant hunter and that gun fit my style just right. I remember going through one whole season never needing to fire the second barrel. I never went back to my OU or the auto-loaders and pumps.
I've bought several guns from them. including a Husqvana s/s 12 ga. Good people and ok prices & fast shipping.
i have a much older AYA 12ga marked Sears. it is a very well made and finished gun. it has a selective trigger and selective ejection. plenty of snobs around that would turn their nose up at it but it has worked for me for many years.
I thought Marge was selling her car...
It would be a used market option, but Browning also had the BSS.
Owned a 20 for a short time. A 20 gauge SxS double should be lite and lively, that thing was a duck blind gun.
