I hate to wish bad things for such a pretty girl.
And I won't. I just cannot understand how someone born and raised in the U.S.A. anyone, but especially someone with the advantages this young lady has had, can turn their backs on their country. If she has in fact renounced her U.S. citizenship, I would, if legal, deny her entry back into the U.S.
Eileen Gu, China's unofficial face of the Winter Olympics, is everywhere. And that omnipresence belies her origins in the United States, which raises questions about her citizenship as China does not allow dual citizenship.
Born on September 3, 2003, in San Francisco, California, to an American father and a Chinese mother who emigrated from China, Gu started training in the U.S. at the age of 8 and began competing in major skiing events in 2018 as an American.
On June 7, 2019, however, Gu announced her decision on Instagram to represent her mother's homeland in the 2022 Winter Olympics.
This past December, the Biden administration announced a boycott of the Beijing Games due to China’s documented human rights abuses, some of which include detaining over a million Uighur Muslims.
Sarah Cook, research director for China at Freedom House (a nonprofit that advocates for human rights), told ESPN that as a Chinese citizen, Gu is not protected by the US consulate when in Beijing. “Competing as a Chinese national removes any potential diplomatic protections others might have as a foreigner in China,” she said. “If she gets into any kind of trouble, she doesn’t have that protection.”

I can.
She will be a hero in China, especially if she does well, and her family there will be treated favorably also. As for your first thought Ricci.Wright, I totally agree.
Its becomes easy to understand why people learn to hate. DEMOCRAT institutions, especially public schools teach people to hate. IE the teaching of history meaning 1612 project, critical race theory, founding fathers were rich white slave owners etc. Socialism and Marxism are good and while capitalism is evil are part of their syllabus.
Education has become a political machine whose purpose is to promote leftist DEMOCRAT ideology. Imagine 12 years of such indoctrination plus an optional 2-6 years of college.
Toss in what they see at sports event such as the NFL and even the Olympics where open disrespect for the flag and civil disobedience are spotlighted and praised by DEMOCRAT activists who cover sports.
Could spend days describing hatred and contempt broadcasted by main stream media outlasts such as CNN, MSNBC, ABC, PBS etc. Many of the younger generation spend hours daily saturated by, DEMOCRAT dogma only, social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter etc. Those with opposite points of view get banned. IE: Donald Trump, Rand Paul, Jim Banks and more.
"Born on September 3, 2003, in San Francisco, California" that says a lot.
I wonder if she'll consider writing a check to pay back all the teams that trained her up to this level for competition? Lots of people put a lot of work into her. And now she'll use their efforts to represent another country.
Didn't they call people like that "turncoats" once upon a time?
Let her move back to her mother's home land. I'm sure they will treat her like royalty even if she loses in the games.(green font)
does that mean you would wish bad things on an ugly girl??????????
She needs to stay there.
Did the commies put some kind of pressure on her?? How about a very large bribe?? How much is this worth to the commies for propaganda so a large payment would be reasonable?? Or is she just slap plumb nuts??
My guess is that she wasn't good enough to make the U.S. team but was good enough to make the Chinese team so there she goes. Might be her only chance to say she skied in the Olympics so she jumped at it. Not a position I'd choose for myself and I think she's about as wrong to do it as can be.
To me, the Olympics are just like the nfl, nba, golf, and any other pro sport. They don't affect my life one bit, and I really don't care what happens.
Yeah I know I'm just an old curmudgeon.

She's as ugly as her politics.

Politics is the reason the Olympics suck.
These days, the Olympics is just a money-making scheme full of pro athletes. The girl is just doing what free agent pro athletes do…..taking the best deal.
That said….. I hope she (along with her little communist friends) gets her honkus whipped all over the mountain! Bet she appreciates the U.S. a little more when she gets some first-hand experience at how the CCP treats “losers.”
Numerous US athletes have played in the Olympics for other countries.
What about the stipend money she received from the US Olympic committee while training, will she return that when she "returns" here...🤨

I would not wish her anything bad. Or anything good. She has made a choice and let her live with it. Deny her any return to the USA, revoke her passport, and wish her well.
She's very young. Just wait a few years and she can write a book about her many REGRETS in life.
She came in Last.
C&P
The American-born Chinese figure skater who gave up her US citizenship and changed her name to compete for the Communist country at the Winter Olympic in Beijing fell twice during the women's short program team event - to the scorn of many her adopted country.
Beverly Zu, 19, who changed her name to Zhu Yi, finished with the lowest score of the event at Beijing's Capital Indoor Stadium after she failed to land a jump and fell on the opening combination, and botched another jump later in her short program.
Skating to Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones, Zhu scored 47.03 after she tumbled on her first combination triple flip-triple toe-loop jump, crashed into the wall, and bungled her triple loop later in the set.
I'd wager she'll soon try to get back to the US, saying it was all a mistake.
Must be two of them because the girl this story started about is a skier not a skater.
That is weird, anti kue. This thread began about a skier, and changed to a story about a skater. Both born in America, and both jumped ship for the Olympics. I admit this story had me confused.
There is a freestyle skier, the one Ricci posted about, and also a figure skater which Sam mentioned that are both US citizens but are competing for China.
Prediction: both of them will suddenly return to being American "Capitalist" when offered huge contracts to appear as hero''s on the Wheaties cereal boxes wearing a dangling Red star medal. 🤬

The olympics are going on??
Meh.
Now I want some Wheaties.
Sorry to jack up the thread I guess I got confused. There are 2 like Neo said one is a skater and one a skier. I posted about the skater.
She fell down 2 times the next day after coming in last. The CCP is not too happy about her performance.
It doesn't bother me that she competed for China. If she denounced her citizenship then she can deal with the ramifications and it's not my concern. Being young and wanting to compete in the Olympics could influence someone to make bad decisions, especially when you throw in a foreign parent's influence . Her choice and her outcome to bear.
I'm not watching any of it this year. And this is the first time I haven't watched any.

I'll watch bobsled and curling if I have the chance. Ski jumping is interesting too if someone crashes. I watched the biathlon on Saturday. It was thick gloves v. 22lr. Windy too.
I watched the jumping yesterday. That takes some nerve. Also love to watch the giant slalom and downhill. Austrian ski boys have got some nerve.
I don't watch the current Olympics but have vivid memories of that old show "Wide World of Sports" where every episode showed "The Agony of Defeat!"
That ski jump must have really hurt big time!
Johnny Qeir is so critical for someone that couldnt cut it as an olympic competitor and never won a metal. He is so swishy!
Well, evidently the kid can ski. She took gold in the big air competition.
Like many other things in life, I’d say you need to follow the money.
I saw some of the skiing last night. Gu did very well. And I think she’s still a US citizen. As for the skater, she should be as nervous as can be, as she gave up her US citizenship as mentioned above. So if she keeps falling, I assume that there is a performance based portion of the agreement she may need to refresh herself on!
