Arghhh.......
Doing income taxes can be very frustrating at times. The tax system has turned into a welfare system. Example.......today I did a return for a single girl that had 3 kids, all under 6 years of age. Income of a bit over $25k. One of the kids was born in 2021. She did have about $2,400 of federal withholding out of her W2, and after the child tax credits and EITC, she had a refund of just under $16k. Again, $16k. That is after she had already received $3,600 of the child tax credit advances for the last 6 months of 2021. Which means she received almost $20k of refunds......on $25k of income. So, basically she had $45k of income and not paying a single penny of income taxes. Then her and her kids are getting free medical, WIC, food stamps and every other dang freebie that can be thrown at her. This is one of probably a few million of folks across our nation that can legally do this, and then you have the millions who are illegally doing it.

Well hell, we are just going to have to start running the money printers faster. Don't want to run out of cash. Tell that woman that since I am paying to raise her children, I think I should have some input as to naming that last one.
Yep, another way to BUY votes and destroy this country. They PUNISH family units and reward single people with kids. More kids, more money! And if you single, then even more money.
I have NO issues with people with kids, or lower income, getting ALL their tax money back. BUT they are taxing the crap out of my wife and I, And GIVING it to others. That's a system destined to fail!
Can I claim them as dependents on my return?
This pretty much destroys the institution of marriage. If that gal were to get married, she loses it all.
Watched Congressional testimony on the IRS last night. In the testimony one congressman said there was 22 billion of fraud in the programs neacpa described.
Brookwood is exactly correct. I have seen many couples who do not get married because they know they are going to get much larger tax refunds.
We have 2 sons, both adults now. When they were born I had to make payments to the hospital on what our insurance did not cover. The wife and I both worked and I usually worked 60 hours a week sometimes for weeks at a time with no days off. When tax time came around we would get $2000. back on a good year and break even most of the time.I dont know when the law changed when people are getting the huge refunds.
You might have left out her Free Section 8 housing. Not exactly free if on the program she most likely pays about 25-50 month for govt housing and possibly reduced or free utilities.
From the thread title I thought maybe Neacpa had taken up pirating as a new occupation.
Do you want her and her kids to come live with you the entire year? That is one of the things it would take for you to claim them. So I would think that you would pass on that.
I heard it's good work if you can get it.
Sounds like all you need to do is squirt out a couple kids and apply for a few programs!
I kinda thought it was gonna be about pirates also... but it is about plunderers...
Folks living off of the govt do not have much to look forward to but survival. When you deal with the public and see the way they live and don't live, you are very thankful of your own success. They do not get to enjoy the perks of folks that didn't have to use the govt to survive. Their choice. And for folks that demean their actions, move along and don't waste your efforts trying to change them. And you just don't take some of it... you have to qualify to be in poverty.
Something I heard about a while back from Joe, let me see, what was that he said, Oh now I remember, “ we all have to pay are fair share”.
Now if she was married and lost her husband, and had no family to help I can see helping her out. But if they are having these kids out of wedlock, they should be on their own and not expect others to keep paying for their misfortune of getting pregnant.
Just keep working and paying for folks on SS and needing help.
I think what galls most of us in the unfairness of it all. We all developed a keen sense of fairness in our childhood. It ought to still apply.
When we see people cheating to get ahead, we feel it in our gut... it's wrong. When we see politicians making millions in the stock market based on their inside knowledge, we feel it in our gut... it's wrong. When we see people not working and claiming "disability" and living in the lap of luxury, at our expense, we feel it in our gut... it's wrong.
God has put this in motion for a reason. Our responsibility is to him, not the cheaters or leeches on society. God made it this way, for our benefit. Our duty is to honor and obey him. He will take care of all the other details. I'm sure he's working in people's hearts "should you really be living this way?" but that is not for us to know, or worry about. The poor will always be with us, for a purpose. God simply asks us to trust, and obey him.
Very well said. Folks will complain about the poor or the rich. Human nature.
Nanuq907. Nailed it!
It was his turn on the Wheel of Fortune to choose a letter. He was trying to tell Vanna that he wanted an R.
R?
I'll still go with......
I'd call it a toss up between R & C. Everyone knows that a pirate without the C is just another land lobber! 😁
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr that be a stinker matey. By the way, know ye how much a good pirate pays fer his earrings?
No! How much?
A buccaneer! Arrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
You had to ask, didn't ya Brookwood?
You're a moderator now, you're supposed to know better.
So disappointed...😋
(Sorry I derailed your thread, Neacpa!)
The thing that kills me about these "lottery winners" is how its all a waste. They spend it like its on fire and it has to be gone before it burns away. They'll buy complete crap with it....they can't imagine getting ahead on their bills, or investing it in something that will actually be worth MORE eventually. Its gone in no time and they'll be no better off in any way.
I have a relative that is this same person. I can't tell you how many things that were given to them, but the list includes a few various cars, a house from another relative, and countless little cash gifts. Still....they were evicted from their home recently. I gave up on giving them anything at all a long time ago. The last thing I gave them was a car my mother wasn't able to drive.
