That is a lot of smoked pork and some serious coin.
They said over 1M total in damages.

Terrible
That's going to stink for a while!!
That's sad for several reasons...
Tragic, terrible in so many ways.
I heard that is how folks learned to eat pork.
Ya'll know hogs are a unclean animal, not to be eaten but the barn caught fire and then the farmer went to survey the
damage, Roasted hog, touched it burned his finger, poked it in his mouth for relief
and the rest is history. Bacon anyone?
Hog haven turned to hog heaven! If that’s where pigs go…
Our best man in our wedding parents were hog farmers in central ill. They had a barn burn but only lost 15 or so hogs. He gave me the roof top weather vain which I still have. Neat old piece of history.
Maybe the guy was upside down on his payments.
I know they were hogs, and where they were destined but damn, they were still living creatures that suffered in a fire.
+1.
I can only imagine the panicking hogs inside that barn. It must have been a horrific scene.
not to far from us .
my wife text my youngest son it was not part of the Hog / pig farm he works at
I can't image all the pigs screaming as they were burned and over come with heat and smoke .
at least it still cool / cold out side that will give them a chance to get it all burred before it really starts smelling up the area
well not that pig poop does not smell bad enough as is .
Large animal housing fires are among the worse fire fighting i have ever done . With houses, either chicken ,turkey or swine running up to $300,000 per each time you add in the value of the animals , yeah gets expensive real quick . The absolute worst is a stable fire .Lots of difference ,emotionally between a chicken or hog burning to death vs. A horse
Yep, sad.
Something most people don't know. A fire burning hogs and a fire burning a human..........same smell. If you have been to a house fire with a human inside that didn't make it out or a car wreak that burned with the driver inside it will be a long time before you can stomach pork. I love eating pork. The two times I smelled a burning human corpse I was off pork for a long time.
Folks for twenty miles around are saying "Do you smell bacon?"
When folks ask what does burned human smell like I describe it as bbq pork with sweet sauce burned to a crisp . Once you smell it you never forget .
As the media is want to do, they exaggerated the story. It turns out that they were little pigs, and the cost was around 100K, not 1M. Still a tragedy by any means.

That would be what is known as a friction fire. The loan documents rubbed up against the insurance policy....
I took care of a burn patient when I was a medic in the military. I'll never forget him. I used to sneak in this small bottles of JD for him. Sad scenario. He finally passed.
Dated an rn who worked for seversl years in the burn unit at Chapel Hill hospital. Some of the stories she told were almost unbelievable. Takes a special person to work there.
I had a military friend that was in the burn unit. Had to stop visiting him. He kept asking me to bring him a handgun. I had reached the point of giving it serious consideration.
