9mm Rimmed Ammo Question

cbxjeffcbxjeff Member Posts: 17,601 ✭✭✭✭

I'm still going through inventory and downsizing. I came across two boxes of 9mm rimmed Federal ammo. Do any modern 9mm revolvers use rimmed ammo (no moon clips)?

Ruger, the 9mmr is like 45ar to eliminate moon clip

That stuff is extremely rare and very difficult to find. Only one seller on GB auction side and his starts at 239 for a box of 50

The caliber is "9mm Federal", not to be confused with Federal brand 9mm Luger.

They were made for a specific Charter Arms revolver that is no longer made. To my knowledge Ruger never made a revolver in that caliber.(yes, they and many others make 9mm revolvers but they are not the same caliber)

I have a couple boxes in my collection, they are very rare as someone else mentioned.

Here's one of mine, notice it says at the bottom "for use in revolvers only"

Good grief - $239.00! I was going to do another giveaway but changed my mind. I'll put them on the auction side. Bid often and bid high guys. 😀

Just open another tab on your computer, go to the listing up top in the address bar, left click and drag across the web address (sometimes the address is long, so go from left to right), then once it is highlighted, right click and hit the "copy" button. You can then go back to another website, put your cursor where you want it, left click and then when you see the cursor, right click and hit paste. It should appear like magic.....Good luck with your sale Jeff.

9mm Rimmed ammo sounded like a great round. l think S&W even invented the Model 547 revolver to shoot 9x19 Luger ammo with a special ejector system. Then Federal came out with the 9mm Rimmed

Then one day someone discovered these 9mm Rimmed Federals would slip right into their old Black Powder 38 S&W Short and 38S&W Long Top Break and lemon squeezer revolvers.😱\

An old gun designed for around 12K-14K psi rounds could become an instant MAGNUM @30,000+ PSI. l dont know if anyone was injured but l dont think Federal wanted to take the chance

Well fatcat458, jeff will not be responsible for misuse of these rounds. 😀

S&W used to make a Model 940 'J' frame 5 shot 9mm revolver. lt uses moon clips. Ruger used to make a Blackhawk convertible with 2 cylinders in 38-357/9mm

Everyone seems to want more POWER. ln 1873 Colt introduced its Model 'P' revolver in 45Colt for the US Army. They also brought out the 44WCF for the civilian market. Winchester introduced their famous Model 1873 lever in the same caliber.

Winchester also made 2 separate loads for 44WCF(44-40). One was a pistol load. The other was a much hotter RIFLE load.

Almost nobody chose the weaker pistol ammo. Everybody seemed to buy the rifle ammo. l hear lots of old Colt Single Actions had a short life.. To cure the problem Winchester simply quit making the hotter RIFLE 44WCF ammo.
