Google has announced a serious security threat to their Chrome Browser. Read the story here:
I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

Well, CRAP. I hate hackers.
Personally, I try to avoid using anything by Google, Microsoft, Mozilla, or Apple because of their relentless gathering of my data. I doubt most users can completely avoid having their info stolen, but we can stop giving it away voluntarily.
That site don't like my ad blocker so screw'em.
My laptop goes to "Bing" upon startup and I guess it may be my home page. I then read all the news on that site and move on to Yahoo where my e-mail set up is. Not at all very computer savy, but have kept this Chinese Toshiba machine going for a bit over 7 years now. The hinges fell off a couple years ago and I now prop it open with a heavy door stop that I bolted to a wooden TV tray. 🤣
I know it is time for a new laptop but most important site passwords are long forgotten. Starting over would be like.....starting over.
Smitty, I'll distill it for you.
There's a critical vulnerability in the Chrome browser. They are offering a patch to it as fast as possible. To see if it is available for you yet, go to Settings and scroll down to the bottom where it says About. Click there and Chrome will update itself. If so, close Chrome and re-open it to activate the update.
The updated and patched version is 99.0.4844.84
There are 3 little vertical dots on the top right of your screen. Click on those, and you will see the option for settings.
Thank you. By following your post I found I've got the version you list as updated and patched. I needed simple, step by step directions. Again, thank you.
You are most welcome, good sir.
BTW, I do the same for people who want to test-drive Linux.
Rocky, I was looking for the update in Chrome "Help" which was no help at all. Thanks to your step by step instructions on where to look and what to do, the update was installed and Chrome was relaunched to activate it.
Thank you very much. Mark C.
