I was doing my place very low bids thing over on the auction side. I realized I had quite a bit of 40 ammo but no longer had a forty. Placed some very low bids thinking no way I would get anything.
S+W, 40 S+W, 2.0 M+P 4" barrel, good shape. $257.05.
Doesn't this sound like a very low price?? On top of one I bought last week that my FFL told me was below cost. So are prices dropping or did I just get lucky??

lucky.
Good for you...
I read that due to the record sales levels of new guns indicated by NICS background checks in 2020 and 2021, 2022 new gun sales have dropped like a rock. Many of the new guns bought are now being sold (to buy gas and groceries?). Folks are buying the used guns and the new gun sales are way behind thus leading to lower prices. This is what I read anyway. I have one particular rifle I am waiting for the price to drop on before I "pull the trigger". Hoping the prices do become more reasonable soon.
Couldn't prove it by the prices of the ones I am trying to buy.
People have gone absolutely stupid
You could roll the dice like I am and wait it out. It could go down in price or it may stay the same or possibly go higher. I have seen these prices cycle from very high to very low. May never go low again. Hard to tell. Best of luck.
i see a lot of "out of stock" on the big online shops
It doesn’t sound like it’s slowing down…
